Hey Product Hunt! 👋

Tobias here from Metorial. Super excited to share Starbase with you today!

We built Starbase because we were constantly testing MCP servers while working on Metorial (our main product; a dev tool that lets you add 600+ integrations to AI agents in just a couple lines of code, all powered by MCP).

We found ourselves wanting a faster and better way to test remote MCP servers and see how they actually behave in conversations with AI models. Anthropic's Inspector tries do this, but we wanted something that runs entirely in the browser and lets you chat with Claude or ChatGPT using your MCP tools.

So we built Starbase. Of course it's open source because we think the MCP ecosystem needs more accessible tooling.

What makes Starbase different:

  • Zero setup - just paste your MCP server URL and start testing

  • Chat with Claude/ChatGPT using your MCP tools to see them in action

  • Debug faster by testing in real conversations

  • Fully open source and self-hostable

We use it daily at Metorial while building our Python and TypeScript SDKs, and we hope it helps you build better MCP integrations too!

@tobihrbr “Debug faster in real conversations”, finally, someone said it.

I’ve seen too many devs test on theory and ship chaos.

Curious though: how does Starbase handle version drift when models evolve mid-test? Feels like a moving target. 🎯

Alvis Chu

This website is the one we want, as many mcp server listing sites have broken links and configs. Definitely recommend it!

Tobias Herber

@alvis_chu Thank you so much. I feel your pain, that's why we built Starbase.

Chris Hicken

Love how Starbase makes testing MCP servers so much easier the zero setup approach and browser-based testing are super convenient.

Tobias Herber

@chrishicken Thank you so much!

Cruise Chen

Its so cool how you’ve brought AI chat right into MCP server testing—debugging with Claude or ChatGPT in the browser sounds like saving me hundreds of hours time... Does it support custom LLMs too?

Tobias Herber

@cruise_chen Thanks. Awesome that you'll get so much use from Starbase. Starbase uses Vercel's AI SDK for that chats. You can set up any model that works with AI SDK.

Alex Cloudstar

Huge congrats Tobias and team. Love how Metorial makes MCP practical with 600+ integrations, one-line OAuth, and self-hosting. Starbase looks like the perfect companion for testing MCP servers in-browser with Claude or ChatGPT. Excited to try both and share feedback.

Tobias Herber

@alexcloudstar Thank you so much. Excited to hear your feedback!

stas kaufman

Haven’t used MCP directly yet, but the concept of chatting with your own integrations to debug them makes a ton of sense.

How you handle auth or rate limits when testing connected APIs?

Tobias Herber

@stas_kaufman Thanks so much! We actually perform the MCP connections from the browser so IP-level rate limits shouldn't be an issue. Auth is handled by MCP's built in OAuth functionality. Happy to talk more about the details.

Vijit Dhingra

This is great!!

Tobias Herber

@vijit_dhingra Thanks! Glad you like Starbase.

Love the vibe, learning without the lecture.

You build knowledge, I build alignment.

Maybe we should host a class together on how to stop wasting time. 🎓

Metorial is an impressive platform—offering open-source, serverless integration for AI agents makes scaling and connectivity so much easier. Do you plan to add a community hub for sharing custom MCP servers or integrations?

Lilou Lane

Very cool to see open-source tooling around MCP growing! Having something browser-based for quick iteration is such a win for developer experience.
