Metal Pay - Pay your friends and get up to 5% back in crypto.

by

Metal Pay allows people to instantly send money to friends & family with just a phone number and rewards them with some cryptocurrency for each transaction — think next-generation Venmo or Paypal. These rewards, called "Pop," are delivered in Metal's cryptocurrency MTL and can be immediately converted into dollars or sent to another Metal Pay user.

Hey @kenanp, @jfatora, @marshallhayner & @kg_3, Can you tell us more about what you've built here? What aspect of this product are you most proud of?
Kristal Garcia
@kenanp @jfatora @marshallhayner @jacqvon We are very excited about getting people rewarded for something they already do.. paying friends! At the same time, we’re showing them cryptocurrency in a low risk way and getting them into using it everyday.
Marshall Hayner
@kenanp @jfatora @kg_3 @jacqvon Metal Pay represents the next generation of payments applications. Fiat currency alongside crypto, PoPP (proof-of-processed-payment) which is a minting mechanism for cryptocurrency. I would say I'm most proud of PoPP and our stunning design. I know this last one isn't an aspect of the product, but I'm incredibly proud of my amazing team!!! 🔥🤘🙌

Very interesting and would love to see it launch in Canada, where we are desperately lacking a payment app like Venmo, Metal Pay (we have e-transfers through banks, but some charge a $1 fee). @kenanp @marshallhayner @jfatora @kg_3 @sid_parihar curious to know what measures you have in place to keep users from exploiting the reward system? Given that there's no fees to send money and you earn Metal crypto every time you send money, I'm assuming 2 or infinitely more users could team up to send each other cash to infinitely earn rewards while ending up with the same amount of fiat they started with.
Kristal Garcia
@kenanp @marshallhayner @jfatora @sid_parihar @aaroniclee Definitely something we’re monitoring with different algorithms. We don’t want people cycling payments to each other and taking all the rewards. We reserve the right to drop someone’s pop reward from the whole 5% to 0% for abusing the system. On the other side, those great users can increase their pop “score” by sharing the app and making regular payments to friends.
Marshall Hayner
@kenanp @jfatora @kg_3 @sid_parihar @aaroniclee This is a great question and one we commonly get asked! Cycling or spinning payments to earn MTL is discouraged and will cause your ability to earn drop lower until you eventually hit zero.

@kenanp @marshallhayner @jfatora @sid_parihar @kg_3 Thanks for the answer, Kristal and Marshall. Any plans to launch in Canada?

I've had the idea to do payments with my housemates in crypto, so this piqued my interest, but this is shady. Not a great way to establish trust, and I'd say that's fairly important if you're in the business of handling people's money.

Pros:

Don't know

Cons:

Every comment on this hunt is a shill. Didn't even try make their users look legit (1 upvote of all time, on this hunt).

Glad you had an idea of a crypto payment app/platform. Talking about it and actually having a product are two different things. Also how is Metal Pay shady? They are FDIC insured for $250k something that every bank is. Can't say that about Venmo or Cash or any other P2P smartphone payment platform. Not really shady at all.
Stanislaus Kaczkurkin
I agree with @mrlee440. Why choose an app like Venmo or Cash? when you can choose an FDIC insured option like Metal Pay? Beautiful UI and app by the way.

You haven't even used the product and are making claims it's shady due to the fact the community went and supported something they believe in. The link was posted on the Metal community discord of over 1000 members, so a lot of people including myself decided to make an account and upvote it. They're all real people, and nobody was paid to shill it.

How do you plan to make it profitable?

@aditianhacker We are using our discover section as a market place for not just crypto, but any business who wants to reward or interact with our user base.

@aditianhacker From what I hear they were already generating revenue before the app came out! Pretty cool stuff

Congrats on the launch! I’m already a big fan of the Crumbs app. Looking forward to using Metal.
Jean-Pierre Pommet
For a first release the app is pretty neat and simple, a good foundation to built upon, looking forward to see next releases ! Also for once we have a crypto app where we don’t have to deal with wallet addresses... Good job Metal Payment team !

Update : so while the app is well made, the major feature is not working for me, I have been sending money to my wife but I haven't received any Pop rewards yet. Not sure what I am doing wrong here or did I misunderstand this particular feature ??
Jeremy Rose

I have been using this instead of Venmo and has been working perfectly. Can't wait to start receiving pop!

Pros:

This is an easy to use app with great UI. You can make p2p payments with ease and without fee!

Cons:

To fully understand how the rewards system works can be a little difficult, but once you do, it makes sense!

Maeby for new ppl to crypto world. The crypto cash back itself. But no reason for user to understand it.

Pros:

New age looking app. I guess i will ditch Venmo.

Cons:

Haven't found any.

Canadian Crypto

Will be available in Canada soon.

Pros:

Free Money

Cons:

Not available in Canada yet.

I really like that this is payment app 3.0. First there were fees to transact money, then Venmo came around and there were no fees to transact money... now we are getting paid to transact money with Metal Pay. This is huge for me, and everyone I know.

A lot of people don't know but the app graphic design comes from Sid Parihar and friends. Sid was the head designer at Apple and designed many of the familiar graphics we all know. It just feels light and fun to use the app (very addicting).

I like that it is an actual FDIC-insured bank essentially (hence the social security request), but that means they are solid and regulatory compliant.

Looking forward to all the new features coming soon!

Pros:

Simply put... app is beautiful, easy to use, not cluttered and I love the 5% incentive for sender and receiver. Venmo looks old in relation.

Cons:

Very soon the fiat to Metal onboarding option will be enabled so I can be rid of Coinbase, but for now that is my con. Just waiting.
