Bulletin, from Google is an app for contributing hyperlocal stories about your community, for your community, right from your phone. Bulletin makes it effortless to put a spotlight on inspiring stories that aren’t being told.
@awt Twitter is the best place for immediate, real-time news but it's not structured well for browsing/discovering hyperlocal news. Hoodline is a good editorial example of this.
Holy shit, the PH app just turned my reply into my main comment so... yeah... uh... essentially I said that I was very disheartened by the consolidation of industries and nearly all aspects of our lives into big companies and that I’m saddened that the era of two kids in s garage is ending.

@duarteosrm that’s my hope! Decentralization of industries is my big bet. I’m really excited to see the product of companies here and even Vice itself, though I doubt they themselves will succeed: https://motherboard.vice.com/en_...
Intriguing but super restricted beta so not really relevant to 99% of the people on here…
When I feel the ground shake or a loud noise I often try to find out on Twitter if there's other people who are also wondering what that was and/or if anyone has an answer. But it's not always easy to find the right information in the noise since Twitter doesn't really tie-in directly with location and there's a lot more going on. Plus it's often hard to find out what events etc are going on around you. It'd be interesting to see where this Bulletin app goes, but I wonder how they plan on retaining users enough to build a reliable network of people. I imagine they'll have something similar to the Local Guides on Google Maps, incentivizing people for posting good content.
Is there an income incentive for users to share? This is essentially delegated news reporting—the data is incredibly valuable. Do I own the rights to my contributed content on this platform? I’m assuming this clause applies from the general T&C: “Some of our Services allow you to upload, submit, store, send or receive content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours.”
