How does the PH homepage algorithm actually balance the sheer volume of daily launches?
Hey Product Hunt community,
With hundreds of products launching every single day, I’ve been trying to understand the underlying architecture of homepage visibility and traffic distribution.
As a maker, when you launch a product, you often notice it doesn't always appear directly on the main featured feed for every visitor or on every device/browser.
This got me curious about how the platform balances fairness vs. algorithmic curation:
1. Personalization & Device Caching: Does Product Hunt serve customized feeds/leaderboards based on user activity, region, or device session cache?
2. Featured vs. All Launches: How does the system transition a launch from the raw "All Launches" queue into the main "Featured" homepage feed?
3. Traffic Curation: Given that standard visitors only scroll through the top 10–20 products daily, what key engagement metrics (velocity, user reputation, active discussions) trigger higher homepage distribution?
Would love to hear from experienced hunters and makers who have analyzed PH algorithm patterns or launched multiple times! How do you navigate feed visibility during launch day?

One thing i noticed is that the first few hours seem way more important than the rest of the day. not sure if thats the algorithm or just user behavior.
I've wondered about this too. Sometimes the same launch looks different depending on where I open PH. A simple guide explaining how visibility works would help makers a lot.
I would be fascinated to see an engineering blog explaining how homepage ranking evolved as Product Hunt grew.
