Make videos you actually want to share with Captions. Easily resize videos, create viral clips, translate with one tap, fix eye contact, insert effects, and… add captions. (Of course!)
Hey all 👋 I’m Dwight. I started Captions with my friend Gaurav back in 2021. I was previously at Goldman Sachs and Gaurav was at Snap. We’re proud to be backed by folks like Kleiner Perkins, a16z, and Sequoia.
We've all seen how video has taken over the internet. It’s become the primary way that everyone communicates and expresses themselves.
But making videos that you actually want to share is still too hard — and that’s why we built Captions.
Captions takes the most advanced video editing tools and makes them easy, accessible, and fast — to level the playing field so that anyone can make videos that look great.
Here’s what Captions focuses on:
🔀 Resize video for any format
Captions will crop and resize your video to focus on whoever is speaking automatically — and generate the right aspect ratio and format for any channel, from YouTube to Instagram.
✂️ Make clips easily
Upload a long video or import from YouTube, specify a duration, and get 10 clip options to go viral on Reels, TikTok, or Shorts.
🌎 ¿Hablas Español?
Dub your video into 28+ different languages to reach a global audience.
👀 Don’t be awkward
One-tap toggle to correct eye contact. Now you really can “fix it in post” with a single click.
🪩 Look good, feel good
Add transitions, images, and sound effects to spice up your video.
🗣️ Say it with me
If the product is called “Captions,” you know we must have the best caption styles! Or… create a custom template to suit your brand.
Captions has been available in the iOS App Store for a hot minute, but this is the first time we’re announcing our editing tools on web and desktop.
To date, we’ve helped 5M+ users edit videos and can’t wait to see your results.
Give Captions a try and let us know what you think!

Great product Captions! The possibilities for self-expression are endless!

@dwightchurchill hey Dwight, how do you handle voice dubs in different languages. I have found it to be the most irritating stuff in every possible similar product. I was looking at English to Hindi translation, but the translation was of comical quality then sounding genuine.
@dwightchurchill@busmark_w_nika thanks so much, Nika! From our iPhone app, you can post your video directly to Reels or save to your camera roll to post later. From web, you can export your video. More to come on this front!
@dwightchurchill Wow, really cool product. I'll definitely use it for my content. Thank you, Dwight! 📸

@dwightchurchill that sounds awesome.
With AI there's great potential for novel video content unattainable before. I wonder if you plan to connect collect data on how engaging content created by your tools are on say Tiktok or Insta to learn what videos collect the most attention so that you can teach AI on what users are sensitive to.
On the other note, how do you approach user engagement and making sure users return to the product frequently? Can you share something? I am very curious.
I am a behavior designer by tade adn lead a BX/UX/UI design studio focused on applying behavioral psychology to effectively drive high frequency engagement. I am passionate about what we do, thus the odd questions.
This is excellent — the perfect desktop video editor to take the grunt work out of making great videos!
I, for one, make far fewer videos than I should because they just take so damn long to produce and this is exactly what leaning into AI is all about — unlocking the lazy creative in all of us!
I'm here for it.

💡 Bright idea
For the past 6-7 months, I've been using Captions extensively, and it's transformed my approach to social media-first video editing. This app is a godsend for anyone overwhelmed by the time demands of video production or (like me) those unfamiliar with video production. Its AI utilization is remarkably effective, making creative video editing accessible, even for those of us without formal training in the field.
I've become such a fan of Captions that I recommend it to nearly all my friends (all of which are social media creators). It's not just me; it's a game-changer for everyone, streamlining all of our video editing processes and boosting our content output. 🚀
A huge shoutout is due to the Customer Success/Product Support teams (Eli & Mara 👀👀) for their incredible work. For a SAAS product, especially one used intensively by 'power users' (at one point, I was churning out 30-50 pieces of content daily so I hope I fall into that category), having responsive and attentive support/success is crucial. Their willingness to listen to and act on feedback significantly enhances the user experience and makes me a sticky-user even at the points where I don't find myself using the app as often.
In every aspect, Captions crushes it.
@justin_rockmore WOW, thank you for sharing! Creating 30 to 50 clips or videos per day is pretty incredible. We're so happy to be part of your workflow, and really appreciate all of your feedback — it helps us make the product that much stronger!
Captions is awesome! Been using it for a year for content and even content for Product Hunt's social accounts :) and the subtitles feature is the best out there!
I just find it hard sometimes to edit in the mobile and do the very small editing so I'm curious to see changes around that!
Feature request: being able to remove all "supersize" and "emphasize" text in one click 😅
@clara_eloy, wow — that's so cool! Thanks for sharing! Re: very small editing, have you tried web? That's our big launch today, and I'm wondering if that helps with some of the more fine-tuned edits. To turn off supersize and emphasize, you can tap into style from the bottom toolbar on your iPhone, go to emphasize and turn off AI Emphasize. Web has a similar option. LMK if that works!
Thanks so much for your support, Clara-Marie — super exciting!

I've been a regular user for the past year. I am happy to be a part of this amazing app. Keep it up!
I loved using this app! I'm a huge fan of Alex Hormozi and his content and this is such an easy way to quickly make similar subtitles. I also like how customizable it is and how much time it saves you compared to manually doing these yourself - which I used to do, and which cost me at least 1.5h every time.
@fabian_m, thanks so much for sharing! Love that it's been a huge time savings for you — doing all of this manually takes so much time 😅 which is why I'm so glad @dwightchurchill and @gmnew built Captions. Really appreciate your support!
We use Captions at Product Hunt (as @claraclara_eloy mentioned)! The first time she showed it to me I literally slacked her "captions is sweeeeet." I had been using descript alone for captioning our podcast and Captions was so much better. Congrats on the launch!
@shushant_lakhyani, our focus with this launch is on making video editing simple vs. helping with video generation. Once you have a video you've recorded (or created!), we help you make it look good. We've found that giving it that level of polish — correcting eye contact, adding transitions, images, sound effects, captions!, plus translating and resizing — can be the hard bit. By making all that a one-click editing process, we hope more people will create videos they're proud to share.
