A Note to Yourself at the Turn of the Year 🌱

by•

As one year comes to an end and a new one begins, I find myself pausing to reflect. If you had the chance to say something to your future self to the version of you in 2025 and 2026, what would it be?

Looking back, I want to thank myself for how much I pushed through this past year:

  • For finding a job I genuinely value, even after going through a long period of stress and fear of unemployment

  • For speaking up and sharing my own perspectives at work

  • For choosing action over just talking

  • For walking away from toxic and unnecessary work relationships

  • For daring to learn new things outside my original field of study

  • For letting go of some comforts and entertainment to focus more on my health

And looking ahead to 2026, I hope that the efforts I put into 2025 will grow into real progress, especially in my work, in the product my team is building, in my relationships, and within myself.

I hope my 2026 self will be healthier, more confident, more willing to try, more curious to learn, and surrounded by deeper, more meaningful connections.

To everyone building, learning, and growing - one step at a time - wishing you a thoughtful year ahead.

Have you written a letter to thank yourself for the year you’ve just lived?

I want to borrow lyrics from a Japanese song "A Letter"
"Say goodbye into the perfect sky, but it is your love that can be the real lifeline"
In 2025 I learned to live truly alongside my fear, anxiety, flaws... accepting all of them
I will continue that into 2026, to live with love instead of perfectionism

@marshall_guan This lyric hit me deeper than I expected.

@marshall_guan Open our heart and everything will come to us

I haven't written, so maybe now it's time:

I am thankful that I was able to undergo some things I wouldn't have done 10 years ago:

– attending various social venues

– creating events and talking to sponsors + having the best people for that around me

– travelling alone to countries + taking my father to the plane for the very first time in his life (he is over 60)

I wish to have a better 2026 – in terms of health, more action when it comes to my solutions and learning new things (wanna improve at languages).

@busmark_w_nika I hope all your plan in 2026 will be achieved. Nika <3

@monatruong_murror Likewise and thank you! :)

Reading this made me pause. I'm proud of myself too, for staying when it was hard and leaving when it was wrong. I hope my future self remembers that progress didn't come from comfort but from choosing growth even when fear was loud.

This feels like something I needed to read today. I'm learning to thank myself for showing up, even imperfectly. I hope the next version of me keeps choosing honesty, health and courage over ease and silence.

Mona Truong

@renly_borris Just keep the real value of yourself and someday wonderful things will come to you

I see myself in this reflection. I didn't have all the answers this year but I kept moving. I hope my future self appreciates the small brave choices that slowly built confidence and clarity.

Mona Truong

@martin_gulp Keep moving forward, Martin

This is beautifully reflective, Mona. What stands out most is the honesty , acknowledging fear, letting go of what no longer served you and choosing growth even when it was uncomfortable. Those are quiet decisions, but they compound. Wishing your 2025 efforts a lot of room to take root and your 2026 self the confidence to keep choosing with intention.

Mona Truong

@musa_molla Thank you Musa, I also want to thanks for your work hard in 2025 and I wish you a wonderful 2026.

Never thought of writing a letter to myself... but instead of a letter, I would like to dedicate a Tamil song to the me of 2025 and 2026 as well ~ cuz life never is a smooth ride.

The meaning and video of the song is here ~ hope it adds meaning and hope to someone as well.

Mona Truong

@indu_thangamuthuSo lovely, thanks for your song <3.

@monatruong_murror I wrote a letter to my future self today, hoping that when she looks back, she'll be proud of the path I took today.

And if I were to look back and thank myself, then I'd do so for these reasons:
- For walking away from a toxic love relationship
- For choosing to build the startup despite knowing it might not be a success
- For starting to appear in public spaces like LinkedIn and PH
- For traveling within the country and outside the country
- For reconnecting with some of my old hobbies and also some people from the past

And looking ahead to 2026, I hope I continue to grow and learn more things. I hope I appear even more in public spaces, and also do activities that scare me.

I don’t really have much to thank myself for…

But one thing I can thank God for is giving me the nudge to keep showing up.

Even when I’ve been lazy most times, somehow my mind is used to showing up.

And I know in 2026, I won’t just show up...

I’ll show up with intention and strategy.

I believe 2026 will be a year full of wonder for me, as long as I let go of old habits and stay consistent with the new ones that will yield good fruit ❤️

recently i am reflecting a lot on everything i do and experience.
one of the best insights ever was 'to live in such a way that you don't blame yourself in the end'
so, the main wish is to stay true, stay honest and listen to your own heart in order to do your own thing. happy new year!

Mona Truong

@yellow_yetti Happy new year Vera, love your message <3
