Light Phone II - A phone for humans

The Light Phone II is built around a user-customizable toolbox. You can easily add or remove various tools (i.e. directions, calculator, music player) using the Dashboard. The tools are completely optional, of course.

Would you *actually* buy a phone with no apps?
Sean Masters
@taylormajewski this phone has apps.

My phone already has both "do not disturb" and "off", which leaves this "phone for humans" squarely in the garbage bin.

"Barebones" for commuting and travel probably needs to include Uber.

Question: can the Light Phone act as a Wi-fi hotspot?
Nick Rameau
@croldham Looks like it.

Oh Jebus, $350 is way, way high....I'd rather install a minimalistic Android launcher.
William Artamon
Yes, but at $100.

Why would anyone pay more for a stripped out product that offers less features? Because they lack the self-control to use a better one? This is a marketer's dream and represents a true case of technology devolution. An evolved version would offer a wrist strap that gives shocks every time a user opens a social or other "unnecessary" app on their current smartphone. That cost? At least $500. Let's launch it!

This is a cool idea that I think will catch on. But I think this price is a novelty, the only reason anyone would pay $350 for a phone that does less is to gain some status, the same reason that most people bought an iPhone in 2007. The design is nice, and people will think you are cool and interesting if you have one. People will take a photo of you and your dumb phone with their $350 smartphone and post it on Instagram. Actually, if you bought yourself one of these you will probably also take a photo of yourself with your $1500 smartphone and post it on Instagram.
