Hey everyone!
Inspired by Kevin Kelley and Futurama, I decided to tackle a simple “Death Clock” Chrome Extension for my first ever product launch!
Even though the name is morbid, the idea is to just remind us every time we open a new tab that life is fleeting and we should be making the most of it!
I’d love to hear any feedback (and ensure it is actually working for most people haha).
Thanks for checking it out!
Connor V.
@connorvo Keen to try it out but curious as to why it requires the permissions to read my browsing history? Momentum, a popular "new tab" extension doesn't?
Just a suggestion - the "left" text in the second line feels off and disconnected. I'd prefer if the second line only consisted of "make the most of it".
Love this! My fav life hack in this area is putting recurring all day monthly events in google calendar for the death anniversaries of loved ones (or pets). It's a good reminder to keep things in perspective on a recurring monthly basis.
Hey Connor! I love the idea of seeing a death clock every time I open a new tab. I've already been using a death clock on my phone, but I'd like to have the same number for both. Are you planning on allowing people to change the # of days in the future?
Reminds me of Dropbox CEO, Drew Houston's MIT commencement address- You have to make every second count. Congratulations on your first launch, Connor. Many more to come.
@connorvo I really like that Pocket is integrated into my new tab on Chrome with its extension. Any chance you're able to add Pocket stories to your new tab?
Hi Connor! Totally love this, perfect mix of optimism and nihilism for me.
Two questions. This is just idle curiosity - how do you work out how many day left? Do you use life expectancy averages for each country or is it all set to the same age? And (sorry if I'm being stupid and this actually isn't possible) is there a way to keep my bookmarks appearing on a new tab, as well as this? I don't like pinning them to every tab but would like them to stay in new tabs.
This is so cool!
@libby_ayres To calculate days left, I just assume everyone will die at 77 (which is actually about a year and a half below average and I'm not sure why I picked that age haha). I have thought about making t more accurate, but we shall see.
As for the bookmarks, I will see if there is a decent way to implement them.
