This is a huge leap in retail experience. First because access is restricted, you can only buy if you are already an amazon customer. Second, it confirms the level of analytical certainty that artificial vision has achieved and its potential in all industries

Feels like another AWS play; build the infrastructure first for their own needs, iterate and optimise the business model then offer it out as a service... and my gosh, offline retail infrastructure has serious value. Well played Amazon, well played.
For years, Amazon's on a mission to minimize the time between "Oh, I want this thing so much" -> "It's in my hand!". Echo/Alexa is all about minimizing that gap, and now this - just walk in and out.. wow.
Back In 1999, when Wired asked Jeff Bezos about the tech breakthrough he's waiting for, all he was asking for was "Windows instant on", but this is so much more

I wonder how costly it is using such a technology in the near future for actual businesses that wish to have something like this in their stores! It sounds extremely expensive, even though the idea is fantastic!

Had the same idea. Glad to finally see this coming to life from one of the few who could execute it properly. Unfortunately, there goes millions of jobs. The other pieces here will be the in-store cart experience and bulk order transportation. Exciting stuff!
This is what a tech giant should be spending their capital/resources on. In a way, Amazon Go is the physical manifestation of a consumer-friendly local marketplace.

I started out in retail in 1977 at Macy part time and have been involved with the vertical for almost 40 years in one way or another.
This is a complete game changer--stores can't hire competent help if they try. It's just not there to be had.
Look for the apparel retailers like old navy and H and M to jump right on this next
