Thanks for the app Sam. One feature request that I think needs to be addressed is that the meditation timer doesn’t go off if the phone is locked. Is this possible to remedy ?

@samharrisofficial Happy to be a subscriber. Is it useful to use portions of the app with a loved one? I'm on Android so I don't know if there's content that lend themselves to debates or discussion. Meditation wise, probably best to do it alone.. Take it easy!

@abnercoimbre That's a good idea. I'll think about it. (But there will be no guided Tantra lessons from me.)

The why it matters part ist the most important one... Without Sam I still would've been constantly lost in my thoughts and very likely would have missed most of my life. Sounds very dramatic, but it's just true.

So.. for anyone who is trying to figure out what the hell is going on in your mind - just download the app and take it from there. It will make thing much clearer.

Pros:

Just the perfect way to get into meditation and understanding why it matters

Cons:

None. Just took a whole while to get out ;)

@awilkinson @samharrisofficial I see there is an investment from Tiny. Have you blogged about this? What is the story here? http://tiny.website/
Sam Harris
@awilkinson @ikirigin Yes. Andrew Wilkinson (started Metalab, which built the current version) is also an investor in the app. He really got the project on track.

@awilkinson @samharrisofficial this is interesting with your views on ads. Taking on investors means their interests and yours might conflict. Might you hesitate criticizing any of their dozens of other investments? Investments follow a powerlaw returns, and investors tend to focus on outliers. I hope your app is a huge success, but I doubt you expect outlier returns here. What outcome do you want? http://blog.yesgraph.com/underst...

Hi Sam, How often will you be adding meditations; I know you said there would eventually be a year's worth put out, but how often do you think they will be added. After I go through the first month, will there be more waiting for me, do you think? Or will we have to wait a week between each one to come out. Thanks.
Sam Harris
@ryan_presson I try to keep ahead of you!

Sam, I want to thank you for this app. I have been waiting since you first announced it years ago--and am still waiting (I have an android). I was wondering if you will ever think of including a Joseph Goldstein Guided Meditation or two in the curriculum, simply for some variety? Would this derail your core mission/curriculum? Thank you again, for this app and for everything else. Seriously.
Sam Harris
@kevin_marchand I have definitely considered the possibility of bringing other teachers onto the app. We'll see how it goes (and what users want). Joseph is a fantastic teacher, and you find his meditations on the 10 percent Happier app that he created with Dan Harris.

Hi Sam. I'm a proud supporter of your work. What do you think the minimum amount of daily or weekly time should be spent as a beginner in meditative practice?
Sam Harris
@ieatgravel It's hard to say. The transition from none to some is the most important.

Thank you so much for making this app, Sam. Your work has been instrumental in reconstructing my worldview and relationship to consciousness and life itself after Mormonism. I’m loving the lessons and meditations already, and I’m excited to use it to introduce some of these ideas to friends and family. I’ve been wanting to attend a meditation retreat for some time now, but I’m not sure if I’m ready. Is there an ideal level of meditation experience going into something like a 7-day retreat at Spirit Rock? Thanks again for everything you do.
Sam Harris
@clark_ Nice! re: retreats — It's possible to creep up on it—sitting for 1 day and then 3 days, before doing a longer retreat. But in my experience, the first 3 days are usually the hardest part of any retreat, so I don't tend to recommend retreats shorter than 5 or 7 days. I'm suer you can find people who would disagree. But when I hear about a someone doing a 3-day retreat, I'm always worried that they'll get slammed up against the wall, without breaking through to the other side.

Love your work, Sam. And the more time you spend focusing on this topic the better as far as I'm concerned.
Sam Harris
@detwiles My wife agrees!

As a @samharrisofficial and product hunt fan it’s great to see both worlds collide. This is exciting. I’ve been a beta tester and been very impressed with the experience so far. Great job
