Go go go team Supercut! While I see David and Neil in the video, I know there’s a laser-focused team alongside them tirelessly creating PRs and pushing the limits of screen recording and video communication. Kudos to you all.
Now to my take on Supercut. I’ve had the pleasure of hovering around since day zero. I’ve seen the journey and the trajectory play out. The bold claims and the extreme focus on details have been there since the start. And I personally think the payoff is real. Using Supercut is simply more enjoyable than the competition. It almost feels like magic. It wasn’t always like that, but through grit and perseverance, the team has clearly delivered.
Not to mention the competition too much, but Supercut feels like what Loom could have been. A laser-focused product that makes you smile when you use it. A product that gets the job done and then some.
The landscape is shifting fast under our feet. Advancements in technology are turning once impossible things into the new bread and butter. Supercut clearly understands and takes full advantage of this paradigm shift.
It uses AI in a tasteful and clever way to give you and your team magic powers. Time-to-share is blazing fast. Whether it’s a quick bite, a pro-looking stakeholder update, or a VC pitch, it just works. Auto chapters, summaries, and captions, the essentials we’ve come to expect. They work great while still keeping you in the driver’s seat when you want to tweak or refine.
My favorite one is the Auto-edit, and I think this is where the app shines and will only improve more and more over time. Do a single take. Make mistakes, the AI figures out and make the bad stuff go away, no need to hit that re-record button again.
As with any software, there have been quirks, bugs, and things going wrong. But I’ve never seen a team so dedicated to finding out what broke, patching it, or rewriting the code. Not making this up. I’ve seen David on holiday, in the middle of the night, pinging people to review PRs. And this isn’t a one-time thing. It’s the DNA of Supercut. @okuiux is not alone, @neiltak , @hilmar_ragnarsson , @mackermans , @caterina_antinarelli1 , @kirkov are all the same. A locked-in team of doers.
This kind of addiction and obsession to build great product is rarer today than finding ML scientists. In a world where almost anything is possible, craft and quality become massive differentiators.
Having worked with David (as my boss) at Typeform. I can tell you this attention to craft, good design, is something that has been with him, since I guess, forever.
So congrats on the public release. This is just the beginning.
