When I started building my portfolio, I spent weeks writing case studies, polishing every word, and trying to tell the right story. I wanted to show my UX process, my thinking, my growth.
But when I finally looked at it with fresh eyes... I wasn’t sure anymore.
💭 Is this telling a clear story?
💭 Does my process make sense to someone seeing it for the first time?
💭 Am I showing enough strategy? Too much detail? Not enough?
That’s when I realized something important:
Most designers aren’t short on effort, they’re short on honest, useful feedback.
Friends give compliments. Hiring managers give silence.
And in between, you’re left guessing whether your portfolio is actually helping or quietly hurting you.
So I built RefineAI, a tool that gives honest, fast, and practical feedback on UX portfolios.
What it gives you:
- A score based on structure, storytelling, and clarity
- What you’re doing well, and what’s missing
- Clear, actionable steps to improve
No guessing. No waiting. No chasing feedback from busy people.
Over 1000 designers have already used it, and many told me it was the first time they truly understood how their work comes across.
Today, I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to share RefineAI publicly for the first time.
If you’ve ever wished for clear feedback before applying to a job, I built this for you. Would love your thoughts, questions, or ideas.

This tool is so helpful for refining case studies. Just how personalized is the feedback it offers?
The feedback is quite personalized, it looks at your actual case study content (like titles, text, layout, flow) and gives suggestions based on what’s working and what’s missing.
It’s not generic tips, it points out your strengths and areas to improve.
We’re also working on making it even smarter with more context-aware feedback soon!
Getting real feedback on UX portfolios can be tough — love how RefineAI makes that process faster and more actionable with AI. Super useful for designers. Congrats on the launch 🚀
This is something that so many designers especially those just starting out really need. Does your tool tailor its feedback based on different UX specialties like research versus UI-focused portfolios?

@nathaniel_cook2 Thank you! You're absolutely right, getting clear feedback early on can make a huge difference.
Right now, the platform doesn’t separate by UX specialty like research vs UI, but it gives focused feedback on structure, clarity, and overall storytelling, things that apply across all UX roles.
We do plan to add more tailored feedback by specialty soon!

What a fantastic concept for UX designers. Does it also evaluate accessibility and usability issues?
Report
Maker
@lucas_parsons Thank you! Yes, the platform does check for basic accessibility and usability issues, like contrast problems, font size, and clarity of navigation. It’s not a full WCAG audit yet, but it highlights common problems that might confuse users or reviewers. More advanced checks are on our roadmap!

How detailed is the AI’s feedback? Does it go beyond just grammar and structure to evaluate UX thinking and decision-making?

@hina_siddiqui Great question! The platform gives detailed feedback that goes beyond grammar, it analyzes your UX thinking, how clearly you explain the problem, your decision-making process, and whether your case study shows a strong, logical flow from research based on UX methodologies to solution.

I love how this can help designers grow at a faster pace. What kind of insights does the AI provide when it comes to storytelling?

@allen_shaw1 Thanks! That’s exactly the goal, helping designers level up faster :)

I love this idea storytelling through case studies can be tough to assess on your own. Does your AI provide suggestions for rearranging case sections or does it stick to more general tips?

@kevin_leo3 Thank you! Totally agree, storytelling is hard to judge when you’re so close to the work.
Yes, RefineAI does suggest how to rearrange or improve the flow of your case study.
If something feels out of order, too rushed, or missing context, it points that out directly, not just general tips, but clear, actionable suggestions to improve structure and clarity.

This is brilliant for the design community! Portfolio feedback is so subjective and hard to get , having AI analyze storytelling flow and case study structure could be game-changing. Quick question: does RefineAI provide industry-specific feedback? A fintech portfolio might need different storytelling than e-commerce. Love that 1000+ designers are already trusting this!

I think it is a perfect idea of development and very accessible. Great
