QuickFolder: The Home Screen Organizer and App Launcher

by

Hey Product Hunt community!

By day, my background is in medical research, statistics, and software development. But a while back, I wanted to explore Android development for fun, so I started a coding exercise to build a custom widget for my phone. It started as an Android widget to have access to my streaming apps without the need to waste home screen space for all the apps.

That exercise eventually became QuickFolder—a privacy-first application organizer/launcher using a resizable stack interface. Today, almost all my home screen apps (except those in the Dock) are organized into QuickFolders. I've spent the last few years polishing and updating it into something others can use.

I just scheduled my launch for June 27th! Coming from a software and statistics background, I wanted to build something high-utility and privacy-centric (no ads, no data tracking). But I also wanted to offer a pricing model that respects the user. I’m currently charging $2 a year—just enough to cover developer fees, keep the code clean, and earn enough to supplement my retirement. The app does have a restricted, free option. The subscription comes with a 1-month free trial.

As makers, how do you feel about the trend of significant monthly subscriptions for simple utilities? Would you support more "micro-subscription" indie tools?

Looking forward to chatting in the comments!
