ModelPilot - Optimize Performance, Cost, Speed & Carbon for each prompt

ModelPilot is an intelligent LLM router that automatically picks the best AI model for each prompt, balancing cost, latency, quality, and environmental impact. Unlike other tools, it’s a drop-in API replacement for OpenAI-style endpoints, meaning you can integrate it in minutes without changing your existing code.

Hey everyone 👋 I’m Apostolos, founder of ModelPilot. ModelPilot was born out of frustration from my last startup, Flowsage, where we noticed we were spending a lot for expensive models when 80% of requests could be handled by a cheaper model. That experience made me realize: model selection shouldn’t be manual, it should be automatic. So I built ModelPilot, an intelligent LLM router that automatically picks the best model for every prompt based on cost, speed, quality, and carbon impact. You can configure it for high quality, balanced performance, or eco-conscious routing, and it works as a drop-in OpenAI API replacement. Literally one line of code to switch over. Under the hood, it’s running on Firebase (auth, database, Cloud Functions) and Google Cloud (ML selection and secure BYOK), making it secure, scalable, and developer-friendly. We also added features like: - Analytics & Billing Dashboard for token usage and performance tracking - Carbon-aware routing to optimize for sustainability - AI Helpers, which let smaller models autonomously request help from larger ones when needed If you’ve ever felt the pain of managing multiple LLMs, I’d love your thoughts — or even better, your feedback after trying it. Thanks for checking it out! 🚀

#9 with 98 points - impressive launch Apostolos! The carbon-aware routing is a brilliant differentiator that really speaks to the next generation of AI-conscious developers.

Genuine question: With such a technical product aimed at developers and AI teams, where are you finding the most concentrated pockets of developers who immediately understand the pain of manual model switching and cost optimization?

(I ask because I've noticed senior engineers and AI/ML leads are actively discussing these exact optimization challenges in specialized LinkedIn groups - often more than on other platforms.)

Really cool approach — especially the idea of “carbon-aware routing” and using smaller models as helpers.

One thing I’m curious about from a systems perspective:

How do you handle routing failures or degraded performance when one of the providers silently slows down or starts returning borderline-valid outputs?

Do you:
– monitor latency/quality signals in real time and re-route dynamically?
– run periodic health checks against each model?
– or rely on historical performance data?

Silent degradation is usually harder to detect than hard failures, so I’d love to understand how ModelPilot approaches this under the hood.
