Alex from the video here 👋🏻 If you’re not familiar, Mastra is a TypeScript framework for building AI agents. We used Mastra to build Mastra Factory, and now we’re using Factory to build Mastra. It’s already writing more than 25% of our pull requests!

Building agents is what we do at Mastra, and we’re invested in making this better. But most teams just want to build their product, not take on building and maintaining a factory too. That’s why we’re sharing ours.

With Mastra Factory, you can own the factory without having to build it.

We used Mastra to build Mastra Factory, and now we’re using Factory to build Mastra.

follow-up question: what should build/improve/fix from your perspective?

 Yeah, you can kick-off a long-running persistent agent, close your laptop, go to bed, then see how far it got on the goal in the morning.

 persistent is the word i would push on here. most tools claiming it keep the transcript, and the transcript is the part that ages worst. the thing worth keeping is what got decided.

What's a software factory? It's a system for agents to take software from issue into production.

recently launched Xirp. 's is open source and configurable. You connect GitHub, you connect Linear and Slack, and you define rules for how work moves through phases. Agents triage issues, write and validate code, release changes, update docs, and monitor prod.

 Nice! It would be interesting to see it build it first product that isnt it self as well. From concept to completion. Like a sort of journey. That would be an awesome read or video.

Very excited to launch Mastra Factory! It's changed how our team ships code. My favorite parts of the factory:

1. It's more collaborative - it gets coding agent sessions off our local machines and into a shared environment. I can see how others on the team are steering their agents and learn from them
2. Tagging factory in slack makes it easy to ship one off tasks that would have otherwise have been forgotten

If an agent in Factory hits a Linear issue that's ambiguous or underspecified, does it pause and ask a human, or just make a judgment call and open a PR anyway? Congrats & team!

 you are able to define a "triage" skill so you can determine what level of detail is needed before work is started. You can also configure the factory to require human approval at each stage if you want to monitor things more closely.

I would recommend manual mode in the beginning until you have a higher level of confidence in the work moving through the factory.

   Each step is an agent with a skill. In this case, the skill handles triage, and you can define how you want it to behave. As with any agent, you should test it thoroughly. One cool thing about Mastra is that you can set up tracing and evals to help with that. I can see people using online evals to keep iterating on their skills. We'll add some guides on this at some point.

Does it store context indefinitelyor does older data get trimmed automatically after some point?

 Mastra Factory is built with the Mastra TypeScript framework and uses its system to retain important facts while gradually dropping irrelevant context. We’re also working on a new knowledge primitive.

 Funny enough what started this journey was us trying to make an agent that "never forgets". This led to Observational Memory . With that foundation we started going deeper into Coding Agents and now the factory. Also gave a talk on Factory here
