I built Kalam because I grew up surrounded by Arabic but never truly *spoke* it - I could read it, maybe write a little, but when it came to real conversation, I froze. None of the apps out there felt made for people like me: heritage learners who know the sounds, feel the culture, but never got the chance to speak with confidence. Kalam is different, it’s voice-first, intuitive, and rooted in actual conversation, not grammar drills or textbook phrases. You speak from day one, like how you’d talk to your family or order food on the street. What makes me proud isn’t just the product, it’s the messages; people saying they finally talked to their grandparents in Arabic, or understood a khutbah (sermon) for the first time. That’s why this exists. Kalam is more than an app - it’s a way back to yourself, or better yet, a better version of yourself.

The interactive drills is helpful especially for a language like Arabic which can be tough to practice casually. Do you cover both Modern Standard Arabic and various dialects?

Abdullah Shebaita
@willow_lane we are currently looking to incorporate dialects, lots of hype has built up around that!
Yousuf Radwan

@willow_lane  as of right now, we only have Modern Standard Arabic. We are working to introduce more dialects in the coming weeks. What dialect are you looking to learn?

Abigail Martinez

It is amazing. Are there plans to introduce gamification features like streaks, leaderboards or daily challenges to keep learners engaged?

@abigail_martinez1 We do currently have a streaks feature. Daily challenges and leaderboards is a great idea! We will work on getting those features implemented. Thanks for the feedback

Started using kalam about 10 days ago — love how clean and focused the experience is. Most language apps try to do everything at once, but Kalam’s emphasis on real-life speaking drills and confidence-building feels way more practical. Excited to see more Arabic learners finally get a tool built specifically for them. Great launch!

Kalam is dope!

Matteo Rider

This is way better than using flashcards. Can users receive feedback on their pronunciation during the drills?

Abdullah Shebaita
@matteo_rider coming VERY soon!
Vera Adams

I absolutely love how practical and interactive this feels. Do the speaking drills adjust to my fluency level?

Abdullah Shebaita
@vera_adams1 🤔, now I think it should
Nancy Brown

This is such an engaging and beginner friendly app great job. Is there a way to track my speaking improvement over time?

Abdullah Shebaita
@nancy_brown6 yes there is!
James F. Gerke

@abdullah_shebaita Is there a placement test to help figure out which level I should start at or can users manually select their lessons?

Abdullah Shebaita
@james_f_gerke based on what users select in the onboarding, the app places them at a “knowledge base level”
