First timer working on an app - The classic intro :)

by

Hi all,

Really have only discovered Product Hunt recently. I kept hearing it be mentioned, and now I get what it is for. I think I assumed it was something to do with special offers on groceries! Clearly not.

Love to talk with others working on e-com growth products as I've worked in SEO for over a decade and trying to ship my own app this month. I love Tottenham Hotspur, offbeat travel taking the hard route (did the mongol rally last year) and love a Guiness.

I've launched my first app aswell this year and one thing i've learned is just ship quick and iterate fast, get feedback from users och track with analytics so you can see where the bottlenecks are in signup, if you have a onboarding or if they do it all ... and then just dont use your features! Best of luck

@markus_kask Thanks Markus appreciate the advice, what was your most effective means of marketing you found to get your first users?

@rankdeck I tried it all, took the one with best cost per signup, and then used those users for anlytics to see what worked and not. Have you set up analytics in firebase? When you get some traffic, you can then set your ad goals to a certain event such as "onboarding completed" or sign up and not just download and so on :). But for me, the cheapest one turned out to be google for anroid version , so used that so optimize and put ios on hold until i had more info on user behaviour.

@markus_kask Thats a cool approach. I'm not using firebase but I have set up my own analytics dashboards in my admin area of the web app I'm building, which includes free sign ups, who onboards, who clicks a paid pricing features button, who goes through to a paid plan etc.

Then breaking that all down by marketing channel attribution.

It's been quite helpful thinking about the marketing as it has made me question what I'm offering to users and whether it's the complete article for them, or at least close enough.

I'm building an organic marketing tracking tool essentially, but a lot of the messaging has been end user 'small business owner led', but assumes a high degree of understanding, which is not going to be the case. Meanwhile the tool could be really useful for agencies but I'm not sharing that message correctly, or presenting that right with the splash page I am using when running agency targeted ads.

Thank you so much for your advice, I've learned a lot from it.
