When is the right time to launch on Product Hunt?
Because building products has become much more accessible thanks to AI, the bar has had to rise a bit, or at least the expectations have become stricter.
I built my own tool – SafeLimit, but personally, I wouldn’t launch it on Product Hunt yet because it’s still very basic and doesn’t even have a website. 😀
Personally, I wouldn’t use Product Hunt only to validate an idea or a problem anymore.
I would feel ready to launch once I reached these points:
– the product works with its core features (it doesn't break)
– it has been properly tested by developers, UX/UI testers, and a few potential users (with bugs fixed)
– it has its own landing page explaining the product
– it already has a version with payments integrated
– it follows Product Hunt’s launch and community guidelines (novelty, uniqueness, etc.)
– it has a small but engaged user base that can support the launch with comments or reviews (social proof)
When would you personally feel ready to launch on Product Hunt?
What would be your minimum requirements?

The place became just too noisy after the AI boom, people suddenly started creating small tools and scripts and are launching it.
The best time is when your product's core feature is ready for the user adoption, everything else can happen once the reviews and feedbacks starts coming in.

@bhargav5394 Already have first feedback and reviews, also tried to improve the product according to suggestions. Am I ready? :D
I think the right time is when your product solves a real problem and the core experience is stable. It doesn't have to be perfect, but users should be able to understand the value within a few minutes. A clear landing page, a smooth onboarding process, and a handful of early users who can provide genuine feedback make a Product Hunt launch much more worthwhile than waiting for every feature to be finished.

@henry_robt For me it is a clear sign that I should start preparing a landing page then! 🫡
Just launched HanBeom today an AI assistant for foreigners living in Korea.
My minimum was: core features working, landing page live, and a clear use case. Payments aren't integrated yet, but I decided to launch anyway to get real feedback early.
Honestly the hardest part wasn't the product it was overcoming the fear of putting something out there solo for the first time.

@junsu22 How did you handle the distribution of this launch (AKA getting upvotes?)
Quash
Couldn't agree more. Now that AI lets anyone push an MVP in a weekend, the bar for UI, polish, and execution on Product Hunt has shot way up.
For my company, the ultimate test comes down to one metric: organic retention in beta.
If a small group of early users is coming back regularly and would actually care if the product vanished tomorrow, you are ready. Pair that with a solid landing page, smooth onboarding, and a clear demo video, and the launch will naturally take off.
Waiting until you have social proof and payment integration is a super smart approach and it definitely saves you from a quiet launch!

@yash_tiwary I already have 23 stable users. Do you think it is enough for launching the first free MVP of my chrome extension for LinkedIn on Product Hunt?
The lead-time point is the one I keep coming back to. Been showing up here and actually talking to people for a few weeks now, before I even have a firm launch date, purely because every version of this thread says the same thing, an audience can't be built the week of. Still not sure a few weeks is enough, feels like it needs to be months, but at least the mechanics match, real conversations first, the ask comes later if at all.

@raffay_sajjad What will you launch? What product are you preparing? :)
I launched today... not quite sure if it was the right decision or not. Im totally a newbie in tech coming from the Cannabis space. But I'm a serial entrepreneur with great ideas and i created a solution to help us better know who we can trust and engage with online. Wish me luck.

@rsm1207 Wow, is your cannabis product somehow related to tech?
Nika's list is all about the product, and I'd add one thing that isn't on it: whether your Product Hunt account is ready. Mine is a few hours old. The product itself has been live for a week and is already picking up search traffic, so by the product checklist I could launch tomorrow.
I'm waiting three weeks anyway, not to polish anything, but so the account has some history behind it. A brand new account with no comments and nobody following it gets its launch treated accordingly, and that has nothing to do with whether the thing is any good.
On the payments point I'd push back a little. Payments prove someone will pay, but plenty of products worth launching are free and stay free. The thing I'd actually want before launching is evidence that someone who isn't me came back a second time.

@hammad_shams_uddin Good point, it has become so obvious to me to have an activity and history that I didn't mention it, but you are absolutely right. Didn't you have any problem with the account verification?
@busmark_w_nika No, verification was the easy part.
A work email on my own domain, plus GitHub and LinkedIn, took about five minutes. Which sharpens the point, I think: the thing you can finish in an afternoon isn't the thing that matters. The part you can't rush is having been around.
Most answers to this are about the calendar, and the calendar is the least important variable. The honest version: you are ready when you already have people who would notice if you launched. Not a list, not followers, people who have talked to you about the problem. If nobody would notice, the day of the week cannot save it, and if a hundred people would, Saturday is survivable. I am watching a launch today that is doing perfectly respectable numbers on nothing but strangers arriving, and the gap between it and the top of the board is not quality, it is that the others brought an audience with them and it did not. That gap is built in the weeks before, and it is the only part of launch timing anyone actually controls. Which means the real question is not when to launch, it is how long you are willing to spend earning the right to.

@rabnoor_s I have 18k+ in the Product Hunt community and still cannot feel ready. I think that I do not need a community as a "community", but potential users... so I need to first ask about the problem. :)
@sharun_kanan Curious about the zero ask stretch specifically. Did that end on a rule you set, or did the first real ask just happen naturally once the launch date got close?

@abdullah_javaid3 What do you mean?
We launched IndepAI after a year of building. The product worked and the surface area was broad, but the weak point was not polish—it was activation. Product Hunt can give you attention; it cannot rescue a fuzzy first session. My minimum bar now would be: a one-sentence promise, first value in under two minutes, event tracking from visit to activation, and ten people who completed that path without help. Payments are optional at launch. Knowing what a successful first session looks like is not.

@michal_wiatr1 wasn't onboarding process smooth? OR what happened in your launch that it slowed down potential?
