2026 and your goals. Let's try to set them for Q1.

Since I haven't been able to meet my work goals very well in the last few quarters, I now plan to approach them more systematically and not push myself too hard on work goals, as that ultimately led to problems that made my plan less sustainable.

So here is my structure and list:

Work goals:

πŸ‘‰ Edit min. 15 pre-recorded YouTube videos

πŸ‘‰ Remove inactive newsletter subscribers, which will be in the hundreds (this will be mentally difficult)

πŸ‘‰ Product Hunt on Product Hunt (this is a specific product, not a random product)

Personal goals:

πŸ‘‰ Stay consistent in exercising

πŸ‘‰ Learn 4 languages (+ read lessons from textbooks I ordered), ideally every day

πŸ‘‰ Eat less sweets

πŸ‘‰ Go to bed before midnight more often (and not at 2, like I did before)

What are your goals for the first quarter of 2026?

  • Read atleast 5 pages everyday

  • Write 1-2 pages a day

Nika

@anirudh_madarapuΒ Wow! Are you a robot? :D Because there's a lot of stuff on your plate, taking into account you wanna do so many things daily :D Anyway, you can do that! :) Enjoy the visit of NY! :)

Anirudh Madarapu

@busmark_w_nikaΒ thank you, I know I'm overloading, but let's see if i can do it.

Nika

@anirudh_madarapuΒ It is only the 4th day of the year; you have that time to achieve it! :D

Mitja Martini

Great question and I like that your goals seem achievable (maybe except the learn 4 languages, at least I would struggle hard with that :) ).

Here are mine:

Work goals:

  • create and improve an AI solution for my team at day job so that it becomes actually useful, in the end

  • launch a SaaS on product hunt and grow it during 2026

Personal goals:

  • more quality time with my family and friends (more daily and at least 2 vacations, better 3), if possible reduce work time on day job a bit to achieve this and my SaaS goal (eg. take every second Friday unpaid leave)

  • get fitter (exercise more, eat less...)

Nika

@mitja_martiniΒ Learning languages is definitely a struggle for me, but I feel so proud when I upskill myself, it is a long-term project :D not only for this one year.

Which two vacations do you wanna accomplish? :)

Mitja Martini

@busmark_w_nikaΒ : We have already planned a ski trip and maybe visit a friend in Portugal. Hopefully one more, maybe to the Canary islands.

Which languages do you learn? I know German, English, a little bit of Spanish, and had Latin in school. I needed to learn Spanish in an apprenticeship and even get a certain degree. I struggled until I went for 3 weeks to Spain to attend a full-time language school. I lived with a family that spoke only Spanish. Immersing really works for me. Unfortunately, I haven't used it since then and forgot most of it.

Nika

@mitja_martiniΒ That sounds adventurous! Have a safe trip! :)

When it comes to languages – I am trying to learn DE, FR and ES. :) I know that some people studying law and medicine had Latin. Did you study something like that?

Imtiyaz

@busmark_w_nika For Q1 2026, I am keeping it pretty simple.

On the business side, the main focus is launching Curatora on Product Hunt, then bringing in early users and scaling it in a way that actually makes content creation easier for marketers and creators.

On the personal side, I just want to stay consistent. Reading more books and showing up for my workouts.

Nothing fancy. Just steady progress.

Nika

@imtiyazmohammedΒ I think that for 2026 it is enough, especially if you want to do these things on a regular basis.

Deepti

Happy New Year!

Work goals:

To launch and grow @Indexly

Personal goals:

I would like to increase my contribution to reforestation and green conservation activities.

Start a community focused on marketing strategies and execution.

Nika

@godeeptiΒ Wishing you luck with the effort :) + admire pro-environment approach! :)

I have many Goals but I have problem with time management. Another problem is sweets are my favorite. So what to do to handle both in January?

Nika

@new_user___3402025395708d37762be84Β I would like to say some "formula", but for sweets and even time management, only discipline works. :D But my suggestion is to go for walks more often and exercise more. You need to keep your hands busy (literally), so you do not have time to eat what you see :D

AJ

Launch what I built last year here, a chrome extension and an app.

On a more personal note:

Finish my wacky open source project that I'm doing for fun

Nika

@build_with_ajΒ What is the hobby project about? :D

AJ

@busmark_w_nikaΒ Oh I started last year, (also this one is AI-less) I wanted to see if I could build a hyperminimal window manager for linux using bash and the xorg packages like xdo.

Short answer, you can.

Dmenu for launcher, window switcher,

Pick any keybinds daemon for keyboard shortcuts,

Main bash script calls functions based on argument given which is called by the command in the keybind.

Script rn does tiling left right up down.

Dmenu launcher mode shows clock and ascii art.

I'll post it soon once I pick a good keyboard daemon and make a good install script for at least debian, ubuntu, and arch.

I also wanna get alt tab working but because of the nature of the keybind calls the script doesn't register window state or stack order.

I can probably just get the stack order from xprop and then cycle through windows.

Optional but I wanna add https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/TLP out of the box just because my use case is a laptop.

Nika

@build_with_ajΒ It's pity that I do not have so much experience with the Linux but it seems it is very popular among programmers! :D Wishing you successful launch (even when it is a hobby project) :)

Alexander

Love this approach - especially the focus on sustainability and not burning out. That mindset alone already increases the chances of actually hitting the goals.

For my Q1 2026, I’m keeping things focused too:

Work - Raise venture funding for U-Pump (medtech is a long game, so Q1 is about momentum and the right partners)

Give a strong push to a new project I’m building, InvestBot, and validate it with real users

Personal

Keep flying - it’s my hobby and the best way for me to fully disconnect and reset

Wishing you a strong and calm Q1.

Nika

@qrepublik_med_idΒ wishing you the same, Alex. Regarding funding, don't you have co-founders? Because, as I have heard, investors usually fund projects/companies with at least 2 founders.

P.S. You must be a super cool guy, do not know many who fly :D

Alexander

@busmark_w_nikaΒ We are two co-founders, with good experience and real-world cases. I hope everything works out for us.

Nika

@qrepublik_med_idΒ Will do. Trust the process! :)

Bekjon Ibragimov

Work goals

  • Develop online presence on Product Hunt, Peerlist and LinkedIn

  • Launch the product on PH I've been working on

Personal Goals

  • Travel the rest of Europe (more like West side this time)

  • Read 50 books

  • Build robust second source of income

Nika

@bekjon_ibragimovΒ Which countries do you want to visit? :D I have the opposite – I need to visit eastern Europe :D

Nika

@bekjon_ibragimovΒ PS: What product are you working on?

Scott Bishop

I relate to this a lot especially the part about sustainability. I've noticed that when goals are framed as pressure, they quietly stop working. When they're frames as alignment, they tend to stick.

Curious: what's the smallest version of one of these goals that would still feel like a win in Q1?

Nika

@signalovernoiseΒ I would feel like a winner if I accomplished that video editing :D

Scott Bishop

@busmark_w_nikaΒ That makes sense. Finishing one meaningful piece often unlocks momentum or the rest. Any way you can break that edit down into smaller pieces so it feels more manageable? In any case, I hope you get that edit across the line this quarter.

Nika

@signalovernoiseΒ I think that breaking it into pieces within one video is not so good (I can find material like B-rolls and videos in advance to add them later), but the process should be like one thing at a time. Because then, you can forget what you wanted to create :D

Jannik Jung
