Here it is — Apple's foray into spatial computing!
This isn't the metaverse, this isn't "AI"... it's a new computing platform — starting at $3499 and available early next year.
Apple calls this "the most advanced personal electronics device ever".
Will you get one?
What do you want to build for it?
Why is Apple launching products on product hunt and competing for product of the day etc, doesn’t PH specifically mention that it’s platform is for early stage startups, not trillion dollar companies?
Report
@timcha I think Chris hunted it, it wasn't Apple who made the launch, it seems.
@timcha I understand the concern, but Product Hunt has always featured the latest and greatest in tech, so Apple is certainly part of that conversation. Ultimately, we want to be a resource for anyone wanting to learn what people think about products, so excluding Apple would leave some big gaps. That being said, we've recently updated the filters on the homepage to allow users to select bootstrapped and solo maker projects to help them more easily find indie projects.
@product_at_producthunt wow that’s a great solution Mike! Glad you’re working on this. Have you considered adding a sections for existing PH products (eg launching updates, new versions) vs Fresh products (eg new companies just coming out of the shadows)?
I'm not even a big sports fan, but give a fan court-side seats to any pro game and this more than makes up the cost.
That being said, I do worry about memories having to be recorded on this device. They'll need to implement good enough cameras on iPhones to actually create the content. This is clearly a consumption device above all else.
Super interesting how it lead with enhancing work and viewing cinema as opposed to some mad metaverse gaming device.
It's purely practical. Scary & amazing....but still practical.
@perry_trevithick they only plan to sell 1M of these devices, so... makes sense.
Also, it's the same price (adjusted for inflation) as the Apple I in 1976.
Overpriced, impractical, no real use-case, CEO didn't even wear it on-stage which would've been a "hey look I'm wearing it to do this meeting you can to" - If anything it served to legitimize Meta's Quest3 Headset as "see even Apple believes in what we're doing so they want in too, oh by the way we're cheaper"
