Pretty - but confusing. Truth be told, I don't get the card idea. Why would you mix metaphors like that? A notebook doesn't contain cards, it contains sheets of paper, or data. The cards themselves are duplicated as the text card can take care of images, check boxes, audio and writing. Why bother with the other, specialist, cards? It's unessesarily complex and confusing as heck. I am really looking for an Evernote replacement right now, not because of the charge but because the app is badly designed, but this isn't it. Right now I am using Apple notes, which are pretty good in their current incarnation.

This actually looks truly usable without losing your mind-- I love the simple checklist feature--it's the main thing I dearly need. I always felt like a monk with Evernote and Trello's cards make me crazy.

@workstationw Appreciate your comment. I think it goes back to our app's fundamental design decision of keeping the concept of note cards separate. There are advantages and disadvantages of each approach (everything in a single note vs separating them into note cards). We choose to keep it separate and group them as necessary.

Hmm looks well designed but I wouldn't called this "simple" note taking app. At least in comparison to the past few note taking apps that were hunted lately, this seems like it has too many features/distractions. I'd be wiling to buy some hard printed copies of those notebooks though >.<

Looks like a cool alternative Raju especially if it is just going to get better. Will wait for Desktop and iPad versions. Is there a feature of sending notes using a secret email?
Raju Vegesna
@tejastpatel Not sure I understand 'sending notes using a secret email'. Can you explain please? Are you talking about secure sharing?
Tejas Patel
@rajuv In Evernote and Trello, there is a feature where I can email my notes to Evernote/Trello using secret email address. That is what I am referring to.
Raju Vegesna
@tejastpatel Thanks Tejas. Got it. Will look into it for Notebook. We do this in some of our other apps.

@rajuv The reason Evernote is such a powerhouse is because of its incredible search and OCR on images. Do you guys plan something similar? What about desktop apps?
Raju Vegesna
@kilokilospm Yes, we are planning both.

Lack of a notes app to rival Apple notes, is one of the main reasons i went back to iOS. This looks great! Well done.

Is there an export functionality planned? I always like to have backups of backups so it'd be nice to store versions of my notes elsewhere as Evernote allows

This is awesome... I've been waiting for something that integrates voice memos and notes. The native Apple notes app is just abysmal, and it's terribly organized. Is there a corresponding desktop app? I'm a developer and work on the computer a lot, so I tend to jot stuff down as they come up.

I've used most note-taking software and hacks I can remember and imagine. What I've found during the last 15 years of using software for note-taking is that the quicker I can take a note, the better the experience. Everything else is irrelevant unless taking a note is quick. This means that a single user action (opening the app, cmd-tab to an app, etc) is all I can "spare", cognitively speaking, before writing down a note. Making a note-taking app, it might seem fun to add some additional steps to the "take a note part", but it comes at a great expense. Also, remember that on iOS an app launches slowly if it's not already resident in-memory, especially if you use a lot of dynamically-loaded libraries (which requires synchronous disk access.) And the more memory an app uses, the quicker it will be "evicted" after having been active. Bottom line: optimize for the use-case of taking a note when it comes into your mind :)

@rajuv Kudos on the app, looks sweet. Any plans for a desktop app?
Raju Vegesna
@bebhuvan Desktop app on the Mac is now available. Web app is also live at notebook.zoho.com
