I made Vooiced to make sure that voices get heard! Whether it's voices from people you follow, your friends, or world leaders - I thought it was important to give people a chance to have more of a say about what voices they'd like to hear - instead of being fed manufactured voices by media that has to be endorsed by governments.

@wisanishilumani what kind of learnings did you take (if any) from the likes of Anchor et al?
Wisani
@chrismessina Hey Chris, the biggest learning is definitely that a streams of audio really need to maintain a great experience as the user hears more audio. It's not as easy to scan through an audio feed as it is to scan through a twitter feed - so I have to double down on discovery and organisation. The ideal experience is for someone to be able to listen to a curated playlist whose audio clips share similiar context. The best ways I can think of doing that right now is 1) Discussions (where a person adds a voice, and a thread begins on that voice - that users can then listen to in playlist fashion) or 2) Very specific curated playlists - e.g. something similiar to what Headspace does (where they have an anxiety or stress course) - this could be a group of recordings from a student protest for example. Anything interesting you've found from Anchor's journey, and similiar products?

Twitter for voice notes is an incredible concept. Dare I say it’s actually better than the concept of Twitter?

This is great!

@dru_riley Thanks Dru! Got any feedback, anything you would change or improve?

Great product. Lots of ideas for roadmap.
Wisani
@edmundamoye Thanks for the chat Edmund! Pushing the roadmap as we speak!

@leo_neo It's definitely a space where a lot of people are experimenting! I liked the direction Anchor were initially going, but the difficulty with this kind of project is maintaining a good experience as the user uses the app - it's very easy for users to bounce - and I'm trying very hard to figure out the best ways to deal with that! What are your thoughts?
LN
@wisanishilumani I would be inclined to say it's a feature Twitter could roll out fast themselves (and I am aware that it is the very old argument of big company Y is just going to do this). But perhaps you will find ways (that Twitter won't reproduce for business reasons or otherwise) to uniquely add value to justify its existence as a standalone product. That's really what I am wondering out :) There must be a way but I don't have the insight atm. As for bounce rate, that's something that I believe to be intimately tied with the above. You can already share a link to a recorded snippet on Twitter if you want to, to my knowledge. You have playlists and other features that Twitter doesn't have atm to my knowledge but they do not atm provide a sufficient USP from my point of view.
Wisani
@leo_neo You make some really good points! I think the best way for Twitter to do this is roll it out to verified users with large followings - otherwise it could destroy the quality of their feed; I can't imagine the amount of "testing" recordings uploaded; and then it goes back to the scanning issue - twitter is nice to scan through text, having to listen to audio and scan slowly might ruin that experience; it has to be done very carefully. Another thing they could try is to show 1 audio clip per 10 tweets or something, to preserve the scanability; but regardless, I think this sort of thing is best built down up, than up down.

@wisanishilumani You might be right :) Curious to see what happens with vooiced.com

Interesting concept. I might as well give it a try. Maybe you can add a "light mode" as well?
Wisani
@realdesigntack Thanks! Light mode is on the roadmap, quite a few people have also asked! Nice one!

From what I remember, is this inspired by Gary Vee's idea of voice twitter?
Wisani
@theharshdeep Hey, yeah pretty similiar! Anchor tried doing this a while back but pivoted into podcasts! Hoping to learn from their path!

Your in SA?
Wisani
@cody_gaskin1 Yeah! Let's chat soon!

Good work on this Wisani - well done! What was the biggest obstacle with audio on the build?
Wisani
@robhope Shot Rob! Thanks for the initial bouts of feedback! I would definitely say the biggest obstacle has been cross browser compatibility. For playback, different browsers support different formats and encoding, once I got that figured out - recording was the next big mountain to climb. iOS still has low support for Media Recording on browsers, so there's a bit of heavy lifting I had to do there!

@wisanishilumani super interesting, thanks for sharing!
Tsatsi Mahase
Cool idea, really like it.
Wisani
@tsatsi_mahase Thanks Tsatsi! Any areas you think I could improve that would make you use it more frequently?
Tsatsi Mahase
@wisanishilumani I think you've done a fantastic job. I'm going to start using it a bit more this coming week. I will give more feedback if I come across any areas that I think can be improved.
Wisani
@tsatsi_mahase Much much appreciated! Thanks!
