Hey Product Hunters! Today I'm excited to finally share Travel Scams with you. I made this app to help people knowledge about scams they're likely to encounter when they travel so they can explore the world without someone ripping them off. Even the most seasoned traveller has stories of being ripped off and it’s obvious that newbies may be singled out as easy targets for crime 😦 So if you got scammed in the past, your experience would be very helpful for everyone thinking to travel and I hope your story can be reached by many people. Knowledge is power! The more people that know about these scams, the less likely they’ll fall for them. Let me know what you think! ✌️

Cool concept, but seems extremely ambitious. How do you draw the line between the select few scams worth reporting and the millions of everyday scams you encounter daily as a traveler?

@aaron_ansel Hi Aaron, thanks! Great question, crowdsourced apps like this will never be accurate, they grow by opinions, personal stories and totally subjective. I'll let users decide what scams are worth reporting by asking them for feedback so they can decide the scams they find useful or not. I'll build a review feature for this as soon as possible :)

@fajarsiddiq Thanks Fajar! If data grows I'll launch an API so it would help to connect with other apps for crime report

Overall I love this.

Pros:

If every scam is reported it will help create awareness

Cons:

Needs to reach more travelers to get information. And repetition could occur.

I’m curious about monetization strategies

Pros:

It’s easy to review scams by country

Cons:

Needs more content

I've been to many countries, and when you are a traveler you are more vulnerable than a local. It pays to be prepared, great resource

Pros:

I travel a lot, and I thought I've seen it all

Cons:

None

1. The zoom level on Travel Scams should reflect the scams shown on the left side -- restrict the query to the bounding box shown, you can obtain is using the LatLngBounds function, with the parameters of the top left and the bottom right corners as latLng objects. 2. Please make your data available for download. Many thanks!

@hasan_diwan Thanks Hasan! 1. will work on it :) 2. I have thought about it and I'd be really excited to launch an API when data has growth

There are hundreds of scams in India, many of exclusively target tourists. People should stay away from India and China.

Sad that this is actually needed in the world we live in, but nevertheless good for you for creating something to benefit others
