Stellar drives alignment with an AI-powered OKR platform that simplifies writing and tracking goals. Turn the important work you do into measurable goals that tie back to a company priority.
@mwseibel thank you for the hunt!
👋🏼 Hey everyone! I’m Angela, cofounder at Stellar.
Purpose fuels passionate work, yet few people see the direct relationship between their work and the company’s top priorities. Cascading business goals work powerfully, but implementation and maintenance can feel impossible.
We wanted a tool to solve this problem, so we built Stellar AI: an intuitive OKR platform built on domain-specific AI and designed to amplify individual contributions.
Stellar AI:
🎯 A strategic copilot. Stellar helps write qualitative and quantitative goals that link your initiatives to the company’s immediate success. Your work is critical and now everyone sees that.
⏱️ Your partner in time. We’ve created an intelligent check-in experience that drives visibility for wins and proposes next steps when you’re stuck.
🌱 A place for continuous improvement. Whether you’ve hit your goals or missed them, Stellar is a place for you to transparently share your learnings.
We’re excited to hear what questions or suggestions you have! Try Stellar out and sign up for a demo with us at www.stellarapp.io - we’d love to meet you.
We're huge fans of Stellar here at Pave. Truly has revolutionized our OKRs, and we just had the cleanest planning process in company history. Thanks to the team @ stellar for building a great product.
Measurable goals are imperative for building successful products and companies. I love the thoughtful OKRs that Stellar prompted which really helped nail the crux of what what we're working toward and different ways it could be measured. Amazing work @angdao and team!!
@luke_harries Thanks for the thoughtful question! While OKRs are generally a useful framework for structuring goals, even personal goals, we've found Stellar most valuable after companies grow to 15+ employees (especially if they are distributed). At that point, you don't get face time with each person and naturally the alignment slips as well as focus on key priorities.
Our AI OKR creation flow, which incorporates best practices, is helpful for almost anyone who is looking to write better business goals. The outsized value comes with continuous synthesis of learnings across teams throughout the quarter and year.
I love how the AI-powered engine got me to think more deeply about the potential goals I should be setting. Goal-setting requires brainstorming, research and benchmarking and having a copilot in Stellar makes so much sense.
@hi_nehashah - Yes! Our alpha testors have mentioned how helpful it has been to collectively get past the collective "writer's block" that's quarter planning đź§
A lot of companies have a hard time putting their ideas for the future into achievable goals, so Stellar sounds like a great way to help that. I really think that it can help streamline communication and make employees feel more connected to their business' cause. Congrats on the launch! 🚀🚀
@heleana - Definitely! We built this product because we were shocked about how many people are still running their process out of spreadsheets
We have a lot of quotes about how the process "feels less real" and people "felt less heard" they're trying to cram something important into a tiny cell
Beutiful!
I really love the UX and the creative usage of AI, and will try it out soon.
What's something surprising and insightful that ya'll learned about OKRs and goal tracking?
How does it compare to Lattice's global OKR management feature?
@loic_v Great questions:
1. Stellar versus lattice: we sell to and design our products for CEOs/Chief of Staffs/Heads of departments instead of HR (e.g. lattice). As a result, we heavily focus on making sure outcomes are attained (and avoid a product experience where it just feels like everyone should just have OKR)
2. Surprising and insightful: My favorite was discovering all the features that make our product better than a spreadsheet through all of our UXRs: we generate graphs of your progress, allow people to link dependencies, create health reports, generate audit logs and improving language around goals.
Lastly, a common misconception that we find ourselves debunking is that an organization should _hit all their goals_. A healthy ratio is 70/30 or even 50/50 to encourage ambitious initiatives and deter sandbagging them
Congratulations, team! Such a great and useful product, well done.
One question though: how does Stellar AI ensure the right level of preciseness of the OKRs? I mean, the more high-level they are, the less specific they become and the less effort is required to generate them. And vise versa: coming up with specific (mostly quantitative) OKRs requires some effort and understanding of the baseline, target state, etc. How does AI deal with this?
@pavel_evteev - Hi Pavel! The AI is good at coming up with general topics (e.g. user acquisition, funnel conversions, partnerships) and a starting point but it's really just guessing underneath the hood
We'd recommend finalizing it with your team, especially if you want to make it feel like it's achievable
Thoughtful and passionate founding team. The product is in a space that is extremely relevant for leadership teams because it helps create visibility, accountability, and velocity for company initiatives. It's also structured in a very scalable way since all projects and tasks roll up to larger initiatives that keep your team focused. Love that it also helps you prioritize everything in terms of measurable impact and effort on the larger objectives—you can tell that this product was created by a team that understands the challenges it's trying to solve.
To top it off, the design just makes everything pleasant to look at. Very excited to see where the product goes next.
@minhtri_chu - Thanks Minhtri! We've looked at hundreds of planning spreadsheets at this point and used them as inspiration for how people want to naturally lay out the information hiearchy
Congratulations on the launch Stellar AI team, have tried stellar and seems like we re migrating from trello to stellar soon! How did you guys came up with Stellar ? With all the color codes and how each card position. Very smooth to the eyes and easy to track the task. Great design!!
@notnminh187 - Hey Frank! We took the YC advice to "start building something for a personal problem that you have". We were EPD (Engineering, Product and Design) leads in our past lives, and we disliked how lack of alignment and progress can really stop a business in its tracks
re: UI, we have a design cofounder (Elise! 🥹)
@quanxzhou Kudos to Elise 🎉🙏. That’s great, YC is such good partner to get the best out of you! My team and I we are launching Afforai, a new AI framework to improve output on these AI chatbots train on your documents, websites, resources which could potentially help to boost productivity too! Would love to have you check it out and give some feedbacks 🙏
Congrats on the launch! One of the challenges I've faced working with OKRs with my previous teams is in the quantification of a KR. For first-timers, it takes some time to learn how to write better KRs. Will Stellar help in guiding users and even giving feedback on how well a KR has been written?
@jonathanlowhy - We have a beta feature to "score" an OKR. Specifically, we structure guidelines so that it is (1) measurable (2) specific and (3) relevant and score it with AI
The science is not perfect but we have good directional feedback on the product with alpha testers
@quanxzhou Thanks! That would be really helpful. So much of my previous time spent with OKRs was just trying to figure out how to write mine better as well as help my team.
