The app itself is ephemeral - gone from itunes. Very meta

@allnick - uh-oh... what have I done? :) @ow - I like using multiple apps and use multiple for different use cases and people. That said, getting your friends onboard can be a challenge. @jmover - all part of their master marketing campaign. I think it's working.

@rrhoover Here's the thing, I like maybe one or two, but when you start adding 5-6 apps (Whatapp, Line, Kik, Snapchat, Line etc) into the mix, your attention span is divided between all of them. It's just not an ideal world and is sort of user hostile. Mind you, I'm anti-notifications... so.

@ow can certainly see an outcome in which you're right. Just breaking it down, this is a change in the flow of normal communication - having to "speak" again to see if you've been heard. I envision a lot of shots of floors, tabletops, etc. just to see pictures.

I know it's cool to hate on big ol' Facebook but its too early to judge an unreleased app. As mentioned earlier, Slingshot has striking similarities to Taptalk (as far as we can gather) but the truth is, most good apps build off existing products (and user behavior). I respect Facebook for being experimental and it's smart of them to launch disparate apps. cc @libbybrittain @joshm That said, their app icon is questionable.

So this was the first Breaking News? :)
Ryan Hoover
@bramk not the first. Product Hunt was early to break the following before tech press (afaik): - Medium for iOS - Bark Buddy via @wp - Coffee Meets Bagel 2.0 - Notifyr via @emieljanson - Taptalk (also see this article in Pando) - Daily by Buffer via @GeoffreyWeg Those are the ones that come to mind.

@allnick Images are cool, but GIFs are cooler.

Might be available if you use a New Zealand iTunes account. That's where they seem to test many new products. Also, smart move to develop this as a new brand independent from Facebook brand.

Facebook really don't care about their app names do they? First they did it with Paper https://www.fiftythree.com/paper Now slingshot Slingshot http://www.producthunt.com/posts... (neither of which are available in the Australian iTunes store by the way)
