Scowld is a free, open-source iOS AI companion with an animated 3D avatar that talks, listens, and sees you. Bring your own keys: chat with OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini, transcribe with Whisper or Deepgram, and speak with ElevenLabs or OpenAI voices. Hands-free wake mode (just say her name), optional camera vision, and locally saved chats. No subscriptions, no paywall, no account ā€” your API keys stay in the iOS Keychain on your device. Hey Product Hunt, I built Scowld because I wanted an AI companion that feels more present than a normal chat screen. Instead of only typing into a box, you can talk by voice or text with an animated character, hear spoken replies, use optional vision, and keep past chats as separate conversation contexts. The current iOS app uses Gemini for replies, Deepgram for speech-to-text, ElevenLabs for voice, and a hosted backend so provider keys are not inside the app binary. It is still early, but the goal is simple: make AI conversation feel more personal, expressive, and alive. Iā€™d love feedback on the companion experience, pricing/credits model, and what would make this feel worth keeping on your phone.
