📢 What social media do you use as a maker?
I’m not really a person who likes sharing my everyday life online =)
That’s one of the reasons I’m really happy to be part of the Product Hunt community.
I like being able to stay in touch with like-minded people and have everyday conversations about things we’re building, learning, and interested in.
But I understand that social media is a big part of today’s lifestyle, and it’s absolutely great that it gives people a way to connect, share, and find each other.
So, I’m curious:
Do you have social media as a maker?
What kind of things do you share there?
Is it mostly about your product, your journey, ideas, or something completely different?
And maybe you’d like to share your pages here - would be nice to discover what other makers are doing and follow along =)

LinkedIn as my primary for building personal brand.
X for build in public
Reddit for getting advice from Chrome developers.
Product Hunt for building a community, chatting, advising.
Substack for sharing my knowledge (learnings in marketing and building a product).
I want to incorporate YouTube, Instagram, TikTok – talking about the LinkedIn restriction problem. And topics related to marketing.

@busmark_w_nika Video formats would be great in your case! I think you’d be a great podcast host too =)
@adana I'd suggest treating social media more like an open notebook than a personal dairy. Share what you're learning , building, testing , or quesitoning .That feels more natural to me, and it also gives other makers something real to connect with.

@lucas_cook2 I agree with you, and in that case, I think these PH discussions are great. I’m also trying to go deeper on LinkedIn, finding a balance between work, growth, and everyday stuff.
What platforms are you mostly active on?
I like the Product Hunt format for exactly this reason. you can talk about what youre building without turning your whole personal life into content.

@jordan_bulk Agree, there’s no need to “create content” here =) Just useful discussions that help all of us become a little better than yesterday.
But don’t you use any social media besides PH?
I don’t think every post needs to be about the product. sometimes sharing a small lesson or something that didn’t work gets a much better conversation.
It is mainly LinkedIn for me, mostly progress updates and lessons from building rather than personal life. keeps it useful without turning into a highlight reel.

@samran_elahi Liked your approach! And does your feed look the way you’d like it to? I mean, the news, photos, articles - do they give you useful information every day?
I use X mostly for maker conversations. the unexpected replies are usually more valueable than the posts themselves.

@joseph_parker3Â Do you post consistently, or mostly when you really have something to show or ask?
I have never been consistent with social media. do you think consistency matters more than choosing the right platform?

@upendra_kumar17Â Oh! Just 2 seconds ago I was answering the comment above and asking about consistency myself =D
I think consistency is good for platform algorithms and helps you stay visible. But for followers, I guess the most valuable part is seeing or reading something genuinely useful and relevant to that specific platform.
I prefer communities where people actually respond to ideas. follower counts dont mean much if nobody talks back.

@johanna_john1Â ,,follower counts dont mean much if nobody talks back,, - this phrase says everything!
For example I have almost the same number of followers here and on LinkedIn, but the engagement is extremely different. Here, I feel like I’m “at home” =)
On PH the community is gathered around one shared idea, and that makes it something really special and worthwhile.
On which platform do you feel like people respond to you more?
Linkedin is my top social media platform. There are several different opportunities for content creation, especially written content, which is ideal as a copywriter. It's also good for personal branding.
Instagram is my next one. Obviously, it's good for visuals and I use it to make short videos where I can talk and show people who they're dealing with.

@peter_jenkins1 For a copywriter, I think it’s the best combo - LinkedIn for text oriented content and Insta for short videos.
I connected with you through LinkedIn - unfortunately, I don’t have an instagram profile =( but if you don’t mind sharing some links here, I’d be interested to take a look!
