Should every founder become a content creator?

Founders are expected to do more than just build a product today :

Build in public.

Make videos.

Grow a personal brand.

Share the journey.

And I understand why. Content can bring users, build trust, create opportunities and help people discover what you’re building.

Not every founder wants to become a creator. And creating content consistently can easily become another job on top of actually running the company.

Do you think creating content is becoming part of the founder’s job, or is it still optional?

And for those who tried creating content but stopped, what made you give up?

And has anyone here already tried Prodshort?

I’ve found that sharing what I’m building can create conversations and bring useful feedback, so I understand why founders are encouraged to create content. But when I’m already managing product, customers, and everything else, consistently producing content can feel like a separate job. I’d be interested to hear how other founders decide what is actually worth posting

I’m curious how other founders balance both.

For a small company or a startup, I think it's expected. The weight drops as the product gets known.

And with the ones that really worked, it went the other way round: the product got famous first and the founder's face came after. Facebook and Twitter went that way, Instagram and TikTok even more so.

Mine is the slow version of the same thing. I put a marketplace up in 2004 and spent the first two years on nothing but search. It then ran for twenty years while I wrote almost nothing about myself. I only started this year, because I'm launching new things again.

Unfortunately... a little bit, yes 😅

I’m building a consumer app now and I’ve basically become my own marketing team: content, short videos, community, partnerships, SEO... somewhere between all that I occasionally remember I’m supposed to build the product too.

I don’t think every founder needs to become an influencer. But learning how to explain and distribute what you’re building feels unavoidable now.

In my opinion, it helps the brand to be more transparent and trustworthy. We started doing videos with the minimalist phone founder, and they are the best-performing in paid ads, delivering purchases.
