The real reason I couldn't stop building this
I launched Recipe Chest today, but the app started as a very personal fix.
My wife and I cook almost every evening. We love good food. What we didn't love was the 6 PM standoff in front of the fridge, trying to remember what we actually
wanted to eat.
Our recipes were everywhere. Bookmarks, Instagram saves, YouTube watch later, screenshots, a cookbook on the shelf, a napkin with my grandma's pierogi notes. I
would find something great, save it somewhere, and never see it again. When I did remember a recipe, I couldn't remember where I put it.
I tried existing recipe apps. They were either too simple and became just another dump, or too complex and required me to retype everything. Neither solved the
real problem: recipes are scattered across the real world, and deciding what to cook every day is exhausting.
So I built the tool I wished existed:
- Paste a recipe link, or a YouTube / Instagram URL, and AI extracts a clean recipe with ingredients and steps.
- Snap a photo of a cookbook page or a handwritten note and it works too.
- The original source link is always saved, so you can check it.
- Organize with categories and favorites.
- Plan the week on a calendar and send meals to a shopping list.
- Share plans and lists live with family.
For us, the biggest shift wasn't features. It was that cooking new things became possible again without daily decision fatigue.
If you're reading this, I'm genuinely curious: how do you currently decide what to cook? Notes app? Bookmarks? Memory? Something else?
