Loqua - Speak naturally and move from thoughts to being done

Your thoughts shouldn’t have to slow down for a keyboard. With Loqua, you can speak naturally to turn rough ideas into ready-to-use writing, understand what’s on your screen, listen when you’d rather not read, and move work forward by voice - from rewriting and translation to scheduling and coding workflows. Less typing, less context switching, more time in flow.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm Josh, founder of theloqua.ai.

I've spent my whole career as a speech and LLM researcher — and honestly, no voice product ever did what I actually needed. So I know exactly where ASR and voice agents break.

It got personal when carpal tunnel, TFCC, and an old ski injury turned long hours at the keyboard into real pain. I live at my desk, deep in conversation with LLMs all day, and typing simply couldn't keep up with how fast I think. I wanted to speak the way I think — not the way I type.

Not a wrapper

Old dictation was a cascade of small models — transcribing sounds but never understanding meaning, and one mis-heard word broke everything downstream. So our team — a group of research scientists who've spent years training and optimizing models — set out to build it properly. Loqua is not a wrapper. Instead of gluing everything to an LLM, we built one full omni model where your voice and your screen share the same context.

That single choice is what makes Loqua different. When you Capture to Ask — point at a chart, an error, or a table on your screen and just ask by voice — it reads code and tables more reliably, holds context better, and runs noticeably faster than bolt-on tools, thanks to a multimodal tokenizer and codec we designed ourselves. And because we train the model in-house, we keep sharpening it to real product needs and your feedback, every week.

Where we're headed

Voice and vision are only step one, though. The real direction is agentic — Loqua doing things for you. Say "remind me to send the Q4 draft at 3pm, and FaceTime Sarah" — and it happens, without you digging through menus or breaking your train of thought. Those little app-hunting detours are exactly what wreck your focus; Loqua takes them off your hands by voice so you can stay in the zone. And that's just our first attempt — next we're going after longer, multi-step tasks you can hand off in a blink and a simple sentence.

What you can do today

✍️ Speak, get polished text in any app
⚡ Capture to Ask — ask about anything on your screen
🎯 Get things done by voice across your Mac
🔊 Listen instead of read
🌐 ~100 languages, on macOS & Windows

Who it's for

It clicks fastest for people who live at a keyboard and now spend much of the day talking to AI — developers, PMs, researchers. A developer speaks a change straight to their coding agent in Cursor or Claude Code. A PM turns a rough spoken thought into a clean Slack update. Someone points at a chart on screen and just asks. And honestly, whatever you do all day — if your thinking outruns your hands, Loqua is for you.

AP, Yahoo Finance & PR Newswire just covered us: *"Voice-to-text was never enough. Meet voice that sees."*

We're especially trying to figure out which workflows people most want to make voice-native. So I'm curious — what's something that's annoying to type today but would feel natural to just say out loud? I'll be in the comments all day. 🙏

The Capture to Ask feature really caught my attention. Being able to point at something on your screen and ask about it by voice sounds really useful.

Hey David, thanks for coming! That is the real pain in our daily job working on tables and excels. The idea of making acoustic and visual context together for transformers brings the speed and accuracy another level, and we will keep improving it!

Yeah, I can see how useful that would be for tables and Excel. Being able to use your voice while pointing at what’s on screen makes things a lot easier. Looking forward to trying it out!

I like the idea of saying what’s on your mind instead of stopping to type it all out. That could save a lot of time during a busy workday.

Thanks Oliver! Most of this post is directly transcribed from pure oral input and the way of working has changed fundamentally. We will keep improving the model and user experience!

Oh, that’s actually a nice way to show the product 😄 Knowing the whole post was written through voice makes it even more interesting. I can see how this could make everyday work much easier. Excited to see what you build next!

nice launch! the screens and voice are context sounds really very useful,
what are the first multi step task you are the most excited to let Loqua handle by voice??

The screenshot feature is such a natural interaction. Instead of explaining what you're looking at, you just show it.

Exactly! Sometimes showing the screen is way easier than describing what's on it.

This is our ultimate goal by designing the multimodel LLMs, to keep all context in a single model makes everything to next level!

Really Interesting - do you think there’s value for folks who’s thoughts tend to come out non linear - can it narrow down and focus ideas as you’re spitballing?

Absolutely, that’s actually one of the use cases we care about most. You don’t need to have the thought fully organized before you start speaking.

If your ideas come out non-linearly, Loqua can help clean up the rambling, group related points, and turn the rough thought process into something more focused and structured — while still trying to preserve what you actually meant.

It’s less “speak perfectly” and more “think out loud, then shape it.”

really cool! do you guys feel like having so much "broad application" helps you or do you think it'll be easier to niche down to attract the key target demo and then ideally bleed out from there?

And that being said - is there a key / core demo who you guys are trying to attract? (Ideally Product Hunt users are the prospective buyers haha!)

Yeah, that’s something we’ve been thinking about a lot. Broad applicability is exciting, but it can also make the story too fuzzy if you try to speak to everyone at once.

Right now, the strongest early fit seems to be people who already spend a lot of time writing, editing, explaining, or switching between tools — developers, knowledge workers, and AI-heavy workflows especially.

So I think the plan is probably: start with a few high-intent use cases where voice clearly saves friction, learn from those users, then expand outward from there rather than trying to be “for everyone” on day one.

Product Hunt is obviously a pretty builder-heavy audience, so it’s been especially useful for seeing which workflows resonate first.

that feels like the right approach - also hard to know EXACTLY who is going to get the most value out of the offering if you're earlier in the product life cycle (and honestly in the technology as a whole)

Many of the team members use it for random thoughts notebook. And we are also testing something like all day long recording feature with summary so you won't miss any of your sparkling ideas

yea that sounds like a neat use case - I might end up with a ton of useless ramblings of a mad man but I could see where it might provide a ton of value.

This really looks fantastic. I have been using voice to text apps for a bit which has immensely improved my workflow but they have never been able to read the screen to get context on what I was looking at. One question though, is it able to see the screen live or just with screenshots?

Look forward to giving this a try.

 Thanks, really appreciate that 🙏
Right now, Capture to Ask works from a screenshot/captured view rather than continuously watching your screen live.

We made that choice partly for precision and partly because we don’t want Loqua constantly observing everything on your screen in the background. You capture the context you want it to understand, then ask your question from there.

Would love to hear what you think once you try it!

Currently it is triggered only through screenshots because we care about privacy, also the inference budget would be high if it is on all the time. We will introduce live chat, with live screen capture in the future, as our multimodal LLM keeps improving itself. Stay tuned!

Not everyone thinks out loud. Some people process better by typing.

Totally fair, we don’t think voice should replace typing for everyone. For some people, typing is part of how they think.

Loqua is more about giving you another option for the moments when speaking is faster or more natural. Your keyboard isn’t going anywhere :)

Regarding the 'understand what's on your screen' feature, is that reading text, or real understanding of what application you're using?
Btw, Congratulations & team 🚀✌️

You can even download it and try it yourself — screenshot my profile pic and ask the AI to guess how old the kid in it is. 😄

Thanks buddy! By the nature of multimodal LLMs, it reads both text, visual and acoustic tokens. So it understands what application you are using, your snapshots and of course your voices, depends on how you use it. We are working on more agentic futures so it can get more long horizon tasks done.

That is an interesting methodology. Using multimodal tokens for such detailed contextual awareness is quite sensible. It is intriguing to learn that you are working on becoming more agentic and with a long-term horizon. Excited to see where that will lead. Wishing you continued success with the launch!

Really appreciate that 🙏 That long-term direction is probably what we’re most excited about too.

Loqua starts with voice typing and contextual understanding, but we’d love for it to gradually handle more complete workflows and longer-horizon tasks over time — without making the interaction feel heavier. Still early, but that’s definitely where we want to take it. Thanks again for the thoughtful comment and the support!

This feels closer to having an AI assistant next to you rather than another text box to type into.

That's pretty much the direction we're going for😄 less typing, more just talking to your computer.

Congrats on shipping it, team! Where does that screen context actually get processes, is anything cached or logged on your end once it's captured?

It is cached only for model prefix calculation through inference, it is freed once the query is done. All local history remains on your device.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 Miao here — one of the makers behind Loqua.

A slightly funny thing about me: I’ve spent years working on speech technology, and I still type way too much.

My work has taken me across both ASR and TTS — building evaluation frameworks, defining multilingual quality standards, working on speech data collection and validation, and spending probably too much time arguing over whether a model actually understood someone… or just happened to get the words right.

After doing that for long enough, you start noticing something:

“Accurate” speech tech can still be pretty annoying to use.

With a lot of voice tools, I caught myself doing prep work before I even spoke.

Remove the “uh.”
Figure out the sentence first.
Slow down.
Try not to change my mind halfway through.

Basically… speak like I was typing.

At that point, I might as well just type 😅

That was one of the reasons Loqua really clicked for me.

We started with voice typing, and that’s still a big part of the product. But somewhere along the way, “voice typing” stopped feeling like the whole description.

If I’m already speaking naturally, I want my computer to do a little more with what I mean.

Maybe that’s turning a rough thought into something I can actually send.
Maybe it’s changing a paragraph without typing another prompt.
Maybe I’m looking at something on my screen and really don’t want to explain all the context again.
Maybe I’d rather listen to a document than stare at it for another ten minutes.

And honestly, sometimes the win is much less glamorous:
I just don’t want to stop what I’m doing, open another app, find the right place, click around, and then remember what I was doing before.

Those tiny interruptions add up.

That’s why I’ve become much more interested in Loqua as a voice agent — not because “agent” sounds cooler than “dictation,” but because I want voice to help with the work around typing too.

My favorite line from this launch is still:

Your keyboard isn’t going away. You’ll just need it less.

We’re still figuring out where voice genuinely feels better than typing — and where it doesn’t.

So if you try Loqua and catch yourself thinking, “Nope, I could’ve typed that faster,” please tell me 😭

That’s genuinely useful feedback for us.

Congrats on the launch, cool idea.

Thank you so much for your support! 🙌

Ever since my personal "AI"—my newborn son—arrived, my hands have been completely tied up.

As a strategy engineer, I needed a way to keep working with zero hands, so I started turning my daily workflows into quick voice commands. It turned out a few of us on the team had been thinking about the same problem, and things just clicked from there.

By the way, this entire post was written with loqua—the boss was crying, keyboard wasn't an option.

So please, don't worry about "bothering" me with too many questions! My hands are busy holding the baby, but replying to your comments takes zero effort now.
