Hi all, we just released Holo globally on iOS and Android. Holo lets you add holograms of real people and animals into your world and take photos & videos to share with friends.
With Holo, you can:
- Create funny and unique content by adding a Holo character into your camera and snapping a photo or video.
- Choose from a variety of holograms including movie characters, celebrities, athletes, musicians and comedians, as well as fun original characters and animals.
- Adjust the hologram by resizing, moving, or rotating it, even while recording your Holo.
- Save your Holo videos and photos to your phone's gallery, and share with friends.
Holograms at launch include: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Debby Ryan, Matt Steffanina, Fall Out Boy’s infamous llama, Magic Mike Live dancers, go90 stars, and a variety of original characters (including a convincing Trump impersonator) and animals.
We're eager to see what you make with Holo (tag: #thisisholo). And look forward to your feedback.
cheers,
Amy
p.s. A bit of background on 8i... our technology transforms video of human performances into volumetric video (aka 3D holograms) that look real and have true volume so they're viewable from any angle, on any device for virtual, augmented or mixed reality.
@kunalslab right now we do the volumetric capture in our studio in LA, but in the future it'll be an easier set up that you can do in a conference room and eventually your living room

I had a chance to meet the 8i team at VidCon and I just want to say not only is this a great product, it's a great group of people.
So cool. I just convinced my sister that we got a dog.

Wonderful app! Excellent UI with plenty of fun content. No wonder Time Warner invested a bunch of money into you guys earlier this year – this has huge marketing & promotional potential for brands.
I could see Holo adding some type of segmentation technology like UPixApp.com uses that would allow your users to insert themselves into the videos as well.
Congrats to your NZ and Culver City teams!
@wilhempujar Its volumetric video of people captured with an array of cameras, reconstructed using our proprietary technology and compressed with our holographic codec. Holograms is just a simpler way of explaining the volumetric video asset that we create, which can be integrated into a variety of AR or VR experiences.
Nice one, I like this a lot! but why such short holograms? I think each hologram loop should be at least 10 seconds of that "illusion" so the viewer won't spot it's a loop within the first 2-3 seconds.
@yl it would be a larger file to download and play. The shorter holograms improved the UX overall so it was worth the tradeoff. With advancements on the hardware side and our codec, we'll be able to bring longer holograms to Holo in the future... as long as its the best experience for users.
