What finally made you stop building random features nobody asked for?

by•

Spent weeks coding a feature I personally thought looked super cool only to check analytics later and see almost zero usage. Meanwhile actual user requests were sitting ignored in my notes.

Now I force myself to stick to a strict rule where I only build something if multiple users explicitly ask for it first.

Was there a specific moment or failed launch that made you stop building for yourself and start listening to users?

i had a similar moment when a feature I liked barely got used. it's a preety good reminder that liking an idea doesn’t mean users need it.

Analytics can be a painful reality check sometimes. You can spend weeks on something and then see that almost nobody even touches it.

I’ve had that realization when a feature I was excited about barely got touched. Seeing actual usage was much more convincing to me than my own assumptions.

This hits hard because sometimes usage tells you more than analytics ever can building what people actually needi ntead of what just sounds cool is a big part of building well
