How do external hunters work?
by•
Maybe it's a bit of a dumb question, but I am still a bit confused about how external hunters work.
Does the product have a higher chance of getting promoted if hunted by someone outside the team?
How to find them? Do you need to reach out to them directly and ask about hunting your product?
Thank you in advance!

External hunters help you promote your product on the platform and off the platform (other social media, news letters forums) for you. They would accelerate the process for you to gain more traction on the platform.
These people generally have a network network of fellow product hunt users who help them promote your product well.
Although, to keep the authenticity of the platform alive, we should avoid them and directly launch products by preparing more. This will give you real insights and feedback about your launches.
@bhargav5394 Thanks for breaking that down! I’m kind of new here too. Curious, what do hunters usually get out of helping launch someone else’s product?
@dheerajdotexe some do it to help the community, some do it for other forms of benefits. Depends who is the buyer and seller here!
@bhargav5394 @lauragenno Yes — solo projects regularly hit top ten and even top 5 of the day. Picking your day strategically, having everything ready in advance and making sure the tagline is really intriguing are all things you can do to maximize your chance.
Not a dumb question at all!...the best external hunters are people who already have followers on Product Hunt and genuine interest in your type of product. I found mine by looking at successful launches in my category and seeing who hunted them.
Reaching out is straightforward but be genuine. Don't just ask them to hunt your product. Share what you built, why it matters, and ask if they think it would interest their audience. Most good hunters get tons of requests so they are picky.
Some hunters charge fees because they actually like the product.....Also, the timing matters too. Coordinate the hunt for Tuesday through Thursday and make sure you can support it with your network when it goes live.
@lauragenno yeah
