Seriously.
5 stars usually tells me nothing.
“This is AMAZING.”
1 star is often:
“terrible product, arrived late.”
The 3-star person, though?
They'll actually explain things.
“Used it for 4 months. Works well. This part is annoying. Battery could be better. Still worth the money.”
Great.
Now I know what I'm buying.
I don't need someone to sell it to me.
I just want the truth from someone who already spent the money.

three stars is the only rating that names a tradeoff, and a tradeoff is the only part of a review that transfers to somebody who is not you.
five stars tells me it fit that person. one star tells me it did not. neither one tells me the axis. the three star review says the battery is the weak edge and the build is the strong one, and now i can work out whether i am the kind of buyer who cares about that edge.
it is also the hardest one to fake, and not for the reason people usually give. nobody buys a fake three star review, because to be believable it has to cost you the sale, and whoever is paying for reviews is not paying for that.
