Thanks so much @benlng for hunting us - Hi, Ph community - We are so happy to introduce you to Deel. Deel helps freelancers get paid faster. The pay-as-you-go contracts streamline the workflow between freelancers and clients. The money is safely kept in deposit and released in smaller payments as agreed milestones are completed. We built Deel to help our fellow freelancers reduce the chances of dead beat clients. Fun fact- we are becoming popular with clients as well. Removing the need to pay a certain % upfront and aligning on specific KPIs or delivery time makes things fair for everyone. We can’t wait to hear what you guys think about Deel and how we can improve it to build a product you’ll love. The world is going freelance, and we want to empower the revolution by removing the emotional friction that comes with freelancing. PS: We just launched profiles - enabling people to start a contract directly with you in seconds and get to work!

Super interesting - I’ve been looking at tools and marketplaces in the freelancer/hiring space for years now and this seems to be one that’s built less for extracting fees from employers and freelancers and more just for running better payment processes. What kind of features does it have on top of milestone releasing that make t better than an upwork or freelancer.com payment gateway?
Alex Bouaziz
@pashpops Quite different! A lot more accessible, legally binding contracts that are enforceable :)
Anna Filou
@pashpops @bouazizalex can you please elaborate? Especially on the legally binding part?
Alex Bouaziz
@pashpops @anna_0x Yes! Well first our target market are all the guys that are not on marketplaces such as upwork and toptal. We aim to provide a marketplace-like structure for all our freelancer friends that get most of their jobs through referrals or cold emails (80% of the online freelancers). Regarding the contract builder, when we started working on Deel, we realised that most freelancers in this market segment tend to not even have a contract, they just tell their customers to pay them some % upfront and start working. On Deel, based on the variables entered, a contract is generated and binds both parties when signing. Let me know if that makes sense!
Anna Filou
@pashpops @bouazizalex it does make sense for sure. My question is more like, just how legally binding is it? If both the client and the freelancer sign electronically, and then the client refuses to release the funds, can the freelancer go to court and say "well, he sign the Deel contract and I did the work as agreed so he must release it"? If yes, can they do that in all developed countries or only in the US (or wherever you are based)? I understand it will most likely not come to that because, as I understand it, if the client doesn't release the funds, they don't get the work, but perhaps they change their minds. Also, don't take this the wrong way, I am honestly curious as I don't know much about these things. I read in your FAQ "Our platform currently supports influencers validators, which can be found when creating a milestone-based contract. Deel utilizes technology to automatically verify when work was done and pays out the freelancer." Can you elaborate? How can you know whether or not the work has been completed? Also in your FAQ: "Deel is here to enter your hours and get paid, we don’t provide a service for you to send completed work." Let's say a freelancer has finished the work, shows a sneak-peak to the client, and the client approves. The freelancer gets the money but there is nothing to guarantee that the client gets the work after that. In such a case, I assume the client would want to take the freelancer to court, and presumably, the Deel contract they both signed could be used there, correct?

@pashpops @anna_0x Totally took it in a good way! And super thankful for you asking. It's super helpful for others to also understand. There is so much details you can get into on a Ph launch post. Deel's contract is built based on the freelancer union contract (https://www.freelancersunion.org...) therefore it is legally binding and could be taken to court if need be but to be honest, it has yet to happen. We actually started helping freelancers collecting back their debts as a feature on Deel since we know the ins and outs of this contracts (cc @david_head for example). We have been doing that for freelancers that got dead beat clients outside of Deel and although we don't promise anything, if that ever happens to you, we'll do our best to help --> https://airtable.com/shrOdPbQsL3.... For the influencer validator, you can try them out on the social media category when creating a milestone contract. Those are a small test we are trying out where for example if the milestone is an instagram post reaching X views, we can automatically validate the contract without the need of the client approving. Lots of work to be done there but it can be really cool! Finally, yep it's binding for both party! Hope that answers everything and again thanks for taking the time to writing this out and checking out our FAQ, it means a lot!

I agree. Most people would imagine that as freelancers, getting clients is the most difficult part that we struggle with. It is not. It is getting freaking paid. This is such greats news for the freelance community. Kudos to this amazing team!

@antonio_garcia_aprea Thank you! Yeah, it's sad but true- struggles with getting paid as a freelancer seem to be a never-ending story! Let's change that!
