From my knowledge, there's nothing like the Airtame 2 on the market today. It's super powerful for its size and the impressive performance makes it much less of a hazzle to present wirelessly! Screens are ment to be used - this makes it easy.

Pros:

Beefier device with the Cypress WiFi chip and more RAM

Cons:

You'll have a lot of cables that you need to get rid of somehow

Thanks a lot for the compliment, Kræn!

I always enjoyed Airtame's product and how the company keeps innovating the software and features. The hardware update was totally unexpected but an awesome update to the product.

Pros:

Nice feature and design update.

Cons:

No cons yet.

How and why was Airtame 2 made? Our first product (Airtame 1) is a fine device that we’re very proud of. And right now, it can suit most of the demands our users are requesting. But a year from now, we think that this device will have a hard time catching up to the features that we and our users want it to run. And that’s why we’ve built a device with better components, a smarter design and room for all the improvements we will offer in the future to help you use screens better. We crammed all the learnings from our first-gen device into a new and improved form factor with kick-ass electronics. We have made a post to go to depth on this topic: https://airtame.com/upgrade-to-a... Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Great job, this is looking really sweet! What kind of use-cases do you see companies using Airtame for?
Steffen Hedebrandt
@jmarovt Hi Jakob, we normally term it all shared screens in schools and businesses. So that would be meeting- and classrooms, larger presentation rooms, cantina's and so forth. When you are not actively streaming to the Airtame, you can also use it to display KPI dashboards, by inserting the URL's as the Airtame background.

awesome

Seems awesome! But how different is this compared to plugging a Chromecast into every meeting room TV?
Steffen Hedebrandt
@gary_torres thanks for the question. We get that question a bit, as Chromecast is the reference people have for the device you use at home. The shortest version would be that Chromecast is great at home, at work you need Airtame as demands for network security, device management for IT Admins with hundreds of devices to attend to are quite different. An even longer answer you can find in this article: https://airtame.com/compare/chro... 😄

Everything they promise , will be always a promise.

The original Airtame never got even close to the promises. And thats not even considering the delays in the delivery.

The video is choppy, the audio will constantly lag, it is useless for gaming (that one i never expected to work) and for video streaming you will be fighting to try and get decent playback.

The device in itself is great. The software application sucks. You can modify it and get really good video streaming using vlc/ffmpeg and not expecting realtime reaction. Even 4k content. You can also hack some desktop sharing utilities and get far better performance than the software they created.

But guess what ? I didnt paid for a device i had to hack. The people i recommended to get onboard all hate the device, and have it as a nice screensaver , or rss display.

This video claims they are upgrading connectivity and look of the device. Guess what ? those points are almost non-issues.

So, stay away. You will overpay for a nice piece of hardware. And you will get sub-par software thats constantly being updated and introducing new bugs and different behaviour.

Even if you like to hack it, you are better off buying any of those chinese stick-tv android/linux based. You could buy 2 or 3 with the same money.

Pros:

Nice compact device, with 2 radios external storage and nice cpu.

Cons:

Doesnt work as advertised.

Tony Beltramelli

I want to add that they have an amazing customer support

Pros:

- can stream from any platform

- can stream entire screen, not just some apps

Cons:

- the early version had streaming issues, the latest update is amaing!

Goldy Arora
how is it different that Google Cast (Chromecast)?
Steffen Hedebrandt
@goldy_arora thanks for the question. As I wrote above, we understand the similarities our two products have. However under the hood, they are different and made for different use cases. Chromecast for your home. Airtame for your work. We have made an article to explain these differences, if you want a deep dive: https://airtame.com/compare/chro...
