It's not, really. It does the basics fine, connecting two apps without writing code, saving time on repetitive tasks. The integrations library is massive. But "fantastic" is a stretch.

The pricing model, it gets expensive fast once you're past the free tier. The workflow builder feels dated now that AI agents exist. You're still manually wiring steps together while an agent can just figure out the logic. For simple two-app integrations it's still fine, but for anything with real decision-making it feels like last-gen tooling.

vs Alternatives

Make

Make (formerly Integromat) was the main one, better pricing, more flexible workflows. But ultimately I've moved to AI agents (Claude Code, custom scripts) which handle the same automations with actual reasoning instead of rigid if-this-then-that chains.

Zapier is one of those apps that has worked wonders for my team. With 10 reps handling 50 to 100 calls each day it helps out team focus on the sales not the admin. I love how it instantly pushes abandoned cart items and Facebook leads into our CRM and pings Slack so we can call in seconds. By automating all the grunt work and lead distribution, my team is better able to focus on closing, not admin. It’s like having an extra operations manager

What needs improvement

As I had more and more of my team begin to use it to scale up more processes and work flows we found that the pricing model begin to rise, to a pint where I wasn't sure how much more we could do with it for the cost we were paying.

vs Alternatives

n8n

we looked at n8n and found n8n is better for complex, high-volume data processing if you have a developer or a tech minded team. Zapier is better for my sales team letting us move at real time speed without a dev team.

Pretty good, but not flawless, integration with many tools. Works better than Power Automate if you are on the M365 platform by being easier to use, broader application support, and better GPT/AI integration (without hidden costs). They do keep adding features that require more licenses, which is annoying, as we can't keep asking to add more and more costs.
