I’m just upset about the new icon more than anything else 😕. The old one (https://dribbble.com/shots/29308...) was amazing. The new one’s kinda meh.

@neilsardesai haha, i agree :)

@neilsardesai Yes. That was my first and only complaint. It looked so good next to Transmit, Kaleidoscope and other good mac apps. I'm really hoping the will bring it back.

Tower continues to be my goto GUI tool for GIT on both Mac and Windows. I have yet to have any issues that cause me reason to change, I do still use the terminal as well but that's not because Tower fails to deliver.

Pros:

Easy to use, Cross-Platform

Cons:

None at this time

I'm a long time Tower user, and although I think it is still the best git client around I am very disappointed with this update. To me it doesn't seem like an upgrade when compared to Tower 2. The basic plan doesn't even have support for Github Enterprise which is a must for me and the pro plan is not worth the money for me as a freelance developer. Not to mention the new icon just doesn't look nearly as good as the old one. I'll be sticking with Tower 2 for now.

I initially just saw the pro pricing which is way too much but to be honest the basic pricing is better but still high for what it is. I use several other feature rich subscription based apps that save me tons of time and none of them are that expensive. I would suggest a mild decrease in price OR some price incentive to retain customers for multi year periods like WebStorm/JetBrains. I'd pay a high "onboarding price" if I knew the retaining price would be reasonable after a few years. The pull request feature has some benefits but I find I still have to go to Bitbucket to finish the process most of the time. The navigation feature is a painful UI implementation to handle the new features. Wish there was something less tedious to maneuver around the app. I think there is lots of potential here though. Everything else in Tower is top notch. Looks like I'll recommend that my team get basic upgrade licenses for now until next year. Here's hoping the pricing model changes before then. Also, I'm hoping the team version becomes a bit more reasonable over the next year.

@joshua_dyck Not personally a fan of the new pricing but just want to point out that this -> "The entire Adobe suite is the same price as the basic plan!" is not actually true unless I'm missing something. Tower 3 starts at 59€ + VAT, per user, per year while the Adobe CC is 60€ (vat included) per month. Still, 60+ euro each year to rent an app is unreasonable to me.

@manuelmoreale ha, you're right! That was a pretty large oversight.

Paid AND not on Linux ? I pass.

Git Tower User since Version 2. Now you have to pay every year and will loose all if you cancel the billing plan. Crazy!

Pros:

Beloved git client.

Cons:

Awful licensing model. Only for rent.

Andrea Maschio

I loved this tool since day one. It is great. It mixes the semplicity of a nice Mac Gui with the power of its git capabilities. But since version 3 the developers switched to a annual subscription model with the same price at which they once sold the major version license. This is unacceptable and even if I'm willing to update, will stick to version 2 or switch to another product when it's not available anymore. Source tree as an example is free and it's a pretty valid alternative since it has way more features even if it's a bit less "cool".

Pros:

As of now, one of the greates tools for git

Cons:

Subscription price way exagerated and missing perpetual license.

I was a long time Tower user but I have to search for alternatives as I can't justify the yearly license/pricing model for using it just few times per week. Perfect occasion to also start learning the CLI.

Pros:

Best GIT client out there in terms of features.

Cons:

Yearly pricing model.

Suddenly just stops working and demands a payment to get your work back. Will never use again. It is kind of like buying ransomware.

Pros:

Doesn't do anything that other free products don't do.

Cons:

Licensing is a nightmare.

Sten

I switched to Tower about a year ago after experiencing CPU issues caused by my previous Git tool. I was a bit reluctant due to the pricing but it's been worth the money for my personal use. Great job!

Pros:

- Fast - Reliable - Clean and simple UX

Cons:

- Some actions are a bit confusing (merging, checking out remote branches)
