Simplicity of Firebase? Check Scalability of PostgreSQL? Check Awesome open community of builders? Check If you're starting something new, highly recommend checking out Supabase. One of the fastest growing products I've ever seen on Github.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 We're Ant and Copple, founders of Supabase. You can think of Supabase as a fully-functional backend for your startup. We solve the common problems that you face when you start building - database hosting, adding auth, and building admin interfaces. Throughout this year we've chatted to a lot developers who use Firebase and face scalability issues. Supabase brings the simplicity of Firebase to enterprise-grade open source tools, like Postgres. We choose existing open source tools have proven scalability, so that you can build products in days and scale to millions. Supabase started in January this year, and since then we've been building non-stop. We went through Y Combinator's first remote batch, and we've been building Supabase as a fully-remote team of 10 engineers, distributed around the world. Thank you, and we’re looking forward to hearing your feedback and questions! If you want to see our journey from Alpha to Beta, check it out here: https://supabase.io/beta

Firebase is great but there is one problem, they have a nosql database. I'm more used to a relational database and this is where Supabase is great. I hope you will releasing functions in near future. Congrats on the launch! Setting a password was a pain, I would prefer to have a password of my choice.

@rajan_ramachandran we agree relational databases are better long-term, even if they are more difficult to use at the start. We hope to make Postgres as easy as any other NoSQL store. On setting a password: we initially had more relaxed password rules, but too many databases were getting hacked 😮

@rajan_ramachandran @copple understood about the password, for better UX you can give a password generator in place. If you can match the speed of firebase nosql database with your relational database, then it will be a big achievement.

This looks amazing and I'm definitely going to look into it, it would suit a project I'm working with right now very well. I see that you are an "open source company", so at least part of your product is open source, but as I understand it, it's a product that is hosted by you. It's free for now, but you will charge for hosting in the future. Before I put a big project there, it would be nice to get an idea of what the future costs could be? Anyway, i'm reading through your documentation and looking at your videos, and it looks REALLY amazon and I'm gonna spend this weekend digging in to it.

@fabian_mossberg "It's free for now, but you will charge for hosting in the future. Before I put a big project there, it would be nice to get an idea of what the future costs could be?" I'm looking forward for that information too, we're on the same boat on that 🤔

Any input on this ?makers

@fabian_mossberg We'll release pricing in January - it will be on-par with Firebase, but a lot more predictable (no bill shock)

Looks amazing! The dashboard was super simple to use and could get up and running in minutes. Will you have a free tier when you are no longer in beta?
kiwicopple
@everconfusedguy thanks for trying it out. We will definitely have a free tier. Right now we're completely free, and we will announce pricing in January. Our free tier will be quite generous :)

This looks promising. If this turns out to be as amazing as it sounds I'll use Supabase for all my future apps!
kiwicopple
@yk_38889 thanks - let us know if it falls short of your expectations. We want to make the database experience amazing for developers and love hearing ideas for improvement
Yannick
a feature which comes to my mind is being able to run schedulers ))

I've been working on a side project and built it with Next and Supabase and really have enjoyed it! So much so that I even made my first open-source contribution (just a simple docs update)! Congrats on the launch!
kiwicopple
@mitchellbwright thanks for the contribution!
Harrison from VC Guide
In love with this. Going to try using this for our next product. Couldn't be more excited
kiwicopple
@vcguidehq thanks - let us know what you build and we'll be happy to tweet/share. If you get stuck, just drop us an email
Curious about one thing, can i integrate this with my Hasura Backend? That is, using Supabase Auth, with Hasura Postgres database
kiwicopple
@jonas_kgomo Yes that should be doable, but you'd probably do it in reverse - use our database and then connect Hasura to it (because it's much easier to install hasura's self-hosted server). You can find the database connection details in our Dashboard
@jonas_kgomo @copple thank you very much, would like to jump into this immediately, i would like to migrate everything to Supabase

Need more open source alternatives to lots of things, but particularly the technologies that power so much of the products we interact with every day. Here's an upvote and my full support 👍
kiwicopple
Thanks for the support, @hiramfromthechi . Nice to read comments like these
