Some presentation effects in Snapr and wanted to get some feedback 👀
by•
Added a few new features:
• Spotlight
Auto zoom + cursor tracking (can also be controlled manually)
• Trim & Speed Control
Cut unnecessary parts and adjust playback speed more easily
• Screen Shake
For when you really want to add impact to something
(not sure how often screen recordings need this… but it’s fun 😄)
What do you think?
Do these feel useful for demos/tutorials, or am I overengineering things a bit?

@gamzabaw Is the spotlight effect something I can change the color of to match my brand?
@jasper_william The spotlight effect is more about directing attention than adding visual flair.
It lets you zoom into and emphasize specific areas of the screen, and when combined with cursor tracking, I think it can make tutorials and demos feel much more immersive and easier to follow.
@gamzabaw Will the cursor tracking work if I'm using a drawing tablet instead of a miouse?
@preston_daniel1 I actually tested this on a Windows Surface, and it turns out pen input devices behave differently from a mouse, so it doesn’t work out of the box right now.
That said, this feels like a really reasonable use case, so I’ll add it to the backlog and explore proper support in the future. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
Feels like the real test is whether this helps explain things faster, not just make videos look better.
@ryan_cooper9
That’s actually a really helpful perspective.
I think I got a bit too focused on the “effects” side while building this, so thanks for bringing me back to the core idea.
At the end of the day, the goal is helping people communicate something on their screen more clearly — not just making recordings look flashy.
Hi Sangwon! I'd love to hear more about the audience you are aiming for so I can give better feedback.
@madison_r
This feature was mainly inspired by tools like Screen Studio and FocuSee.
I wanted to explore features for people creating product demos, app walkthroughs, tutorials, and showcase videos — especially creators who care about presentation quality and clarity.
@gamzabaw Do you have any plans to enter/promote in the social media realm and fandom edits?
The zoom + cursor tracking combo is solid though — that's the stuff creators will actually use daily.
@sastra_kasra Thanks for your feedback. That’s exactly the use case I had in mind.
I think the zoom + cursor tracking combo can be really useful for explaining issues during collaboration, or creating tutorials and product demos that are easier to follow.
Spotlight and trim/speed control definitely feel genuinely useful for demos and tutorials. Screen shake is probably more niche 😄 but for short product videos or social clips, it can actually make moments feel more dynamic.
@darla_henryy Thanks for the feedback — really appreciate it. I’ll keep thinking about ways to make these features faster, smoother, and easier to use in real workflows 🙂
Spotlight and auto zoom are game changers for demo videos! It really helps the viewer focus on the important parts of the UI. One piece of feedback would be to perhaps add a way to customize the spotlight color to match the brand of the product being demoed?
@rivra_dev I think I may have made the naming a bit confusing 😄
The current idea behind “spotlight” in Snapr is more of a zoom + focus effect that tracks the mouse cursor and helps create more dynamic, easier-to-follow demos.
But thanks to your comment, I think I just got a really good hint for an actual spotlight-style effect too. Definitely something worth considering — appreciate the feedback!
