Retic update: habits you're trying to NOT do get tracked differently now
Another quick one from building Retic solo (posted here before if you want the backstory). This time it's about habits you're trying to stop doing.
Most habit trackers assume every habit is something you actively perform: meditate, walk, drink water. But "no late-night snacking" or "quit smoking" work backwards. You succeed by doing nothing, and there's no natural moment in your day to open an app and log that nothing happened.
So Retic treats these as their own type. An "avoid" habit counts every day as a win by default, and the only day you ever need to open the app is the day you actually slip. Attached is a real one: "No Late-Night Snacking," with a single logged slip 10 days back, and the streak just quietly picked back up from there without any daily check-in in between.
Happy to talk through how "avoid" habits are modeled under the hood, or if you've hit this with other trackers. :)
