I created an application to split bills between my four-roommates. This is what failed first.

Living with three other people, once per month one of us forgot to pay the electricity bill. That is why I decided to develop a small application called Flatledger in the course of two weekends. It will manage shared expenses, send reminders and show who owes what to whom.

One of the bugs I discovered at first is rounding. Splitting 100 dollars among three people gave me an extra cent, making the figures differ. The way I resolved the problem was to give the remainder to the person who paid the money.
