Hey Product Hunt 👋

If you're new to Raycast: Think of it as your command center for Windows. Hit "Alt + Space", type what you need, and go. Launch apps, search files, run extensions like GitHub or Notion, ask AI. All without touching your mouse.

Why we built this:

We spent the last 5 years building Raycast for Mac. Hundreds of thousands of people now use it daily to cut through the noise. But Windows users deserve the same. Your tools shouldn't get in the way. They should help you focus and get things done. So today, we bring the same experience to your PC.

What makes Raycast different:

Custom file search - Windows doesn't have proper indexing, so we built our own. Fast and accurate.

Hundreds of extensions - Control your smart home, search Notion, manage GitHub, translate text, find GIFs. Or build your own!

Free AI during beta - Ask questions to get answers with citations without a subscription needed.

Built for Windows - Familiar keyboard shortcuts, design that fits right in, and you can even launch your favorite games.

What's coming next:

We'll add AI Chat, Notes, and more features in the months ahead. We ship fast and want your feedback. So please let us know what you miss.

Yesterday was Windows' 40th anniversary. It felt like the right moment to launch this. Try it and let us know what you think. What should we build next?

It's a new start for the Start Menu... or perhaps a complete reboot!

I think @charliedeets said it well:

Thomas Paul Mann

@charliedeets  @chrismessina indeed perfectly phrased!

I'm simple. I see Raycast, I upvote.

I never use Windows, but I'm glad this gives more people access to Raycast! It's easily one of my most used tools. Really can't imagine working without it at this point.

@jakecrump Thanks for the kind words and continuous support 🫶

Love the intro video! 👍Raycast is so much more than an alternative to tools like Keypirinha and FlowLauncher! My mind is blown 🧠💣🤯! The UI is stunning and the UX is brilliant Wow, I have only used it for about 20 minutes and I am already seeing the benefits. Really nice tool!

Per Nielsen Tikær

Per Nielsen Tikær

Good milestone @thomaspaulmann . I’m curious how smooth the Windows version feels compared to the Mac experience, especially with extensions and real-time search.

Thomas Paul Mann

@harkirat_singh3777 we put a lot of effort into making the app fast and responsive. Especially file search is quite an upgrade. And on Windows you can finally search for files in the Root Search without opening a dedicated command.

The best everything hub! Love the vintage windows vibes snuck into the marketing material ✨

Thomas Paul Mann

@sentry_co love the phrase "everything hub"!

I'm genuinely curious - what are the key advantages of RayCast over PowerToys Run? I'm currently using PowerToys Run and wondering if it's worth switching or trying RayCast alongside it.

Thomas Paul Mann

@generalgda We should probably write up a comparison page but in a nutshell:

  1. Browse and install hundreds of extension to speed up tools like GitHub, Notion, Linear, and more

  2. Use our custom file search to open things even faster

  3. Launch games

  4. Make use of text snippets and quicklinks to speed up repetitive tasks

  5. A lot more but I stop here

@thomaspaulmann , thanks!

Per Nielsen Tikær

@generalgda PowerToys and Raycast are both productivity tools designed for Windows; however, they adopt distinct approaches and feature sets.

PowerToys provides a collection of individual utilities for Windows, whereas Raycast offers a cohesive interface and a contemporary launcher experience, incorporating AI integration, Cloud Sync, and a comprehensive Extensions ecosystem. Raycast emphasizes speed and workflow optimization across all your tools.

In the end what matters the most is what works for you 🙂
