I would love to have a new category on PH which would be the last Capital Invested each day in startups. For example you can see that today 100k have been invested in A, 550k in B, etc etc - That would be great to follow where the fund goes :)

1) Display number of times a product was added to a collection as a signal of future intention.
2) Mine collection name data and cross reference with products to understand intention, then present this back monthly (ex. Top new products people added to marketing lists this month)
3. Mine collection data to make a better Similar algorithm. (Cross ref collections a product was added to with products that show up a lot in other similar collection names)
Oh man! I just published a Medium article about my Product Hunt experiences a few minutes ago. The timing of this discussion is uncanny, because a lot of the points being discussed in the comments, like the ranking algorithm and being able to edit hunts and transparency around how you get on the homepage, are things I mention in my article. Now my article's content doesn't seem as unique and interesting. Doh! Oh well, I hope you'll give it a read and find some entertainment in it nonetheless: https://medium.com/@AjayGoel/ten...
@thesameerk@parttimesnob Thank you! I was straddling the line between trying to be entertaining and insightful, and I was afraid that it could have come across as resentful or offensive, so I'm glad you found it to be the former!

Notifying makers when they are featured but did not submit the product themselves would be interesting. Some makers only find out later that they were on the site.
@seysconstantijn we try to manually reach out to makers when their product is posted; however, we miss some. We haven't found a reliable way to automate it outside of asking the community to hunt them down but not everyone will do that. :)

@rrhoover@seysconstantijn This is kind of the best part of being a PH staffer, right? Working directly with makers and founders?
Moar context from hunters. Most hunters submit the product, wait for it to post, and go back into the post to explain "Why I hunted this." If data sez that hunts without the extra two cents are less than engaging - I would argue for the omission of branded hunts where everyone knows what the thing is and why - consider adding another blank to the product submission form. NO ONE WILL BE HARMED.

Hobbyist hunts. They get created when enough active people add (hidden) keywords to their profiles. Cooking, Running, Crafts, Brewing, etc.
Two things I'd love to see different when adding new hunts:
1) Submitting media: It looks like the preview size post-submission of media (while still on the new hunt submission page) might not be resizing to fit the dimensions of the image you're submitting. So for example (alert: not a designer so bear with my common tongue) if I submit a rectangular (i.e., more wide than tall) image, all I see on the preview is a static box that cuts off most of the image. A new hunter would not be sure if the full image will show, or if it will be cut down to the dimensions displayed by the preview.
2) When hunting, if a product has already been hunted or somehow flagged by PH as already hunted, this message only comes up after submission, i.e., after all the time spent to fill out the hunt submission form is entered, media found, description written (wrote?), etc. Please notify earlier if possible!
Braindump (most of these are 'make it more like Reddit/LinkedIn/FB'):
- Create and manage your own Product Hunt category - Reddit style. Personally I would love to set up and manage a Product Hunt category for skateboards, techno labels, great DJ livesets, etc.
- Product Hunt for people - with sub-categories, great iOS developers, amazing seed stage investors, great product peeps, etc
- Twitter/Instagram-like stream with products/books/etc the people I follow - smart filter would be nice for this (this is basically a pimped out + richer-data activity list)
- Richer profiles and allow for interactions between hunters, includes smart filter/search for other hunters - yup, eventually every community or website turns into a social network :)
- Make collections more social, allow for direct, realtime maker to maker and/or hunter interaction - f.e. would love to talk to everyone/all makers that are building a messaging app like myself
Keep it up! The Singapore PH community is very much alive and kicking! :D
