Midjourney Acquires Astrology Startup Co-Star
by•
@Midjourney has acquired @Co—Star Astrology and "is building its first standalone image-generation app, the startup’s latest moves to push into new business areas after promising an ambitious expansion last month."
Co-Star uses birth charts and a combination of AI and human writing to offer personalized advice and assess compatibility between the user and any friends they add. The free app, which offers some paid features, has about 4.3 million monthly active users, according to Sensor Tower data. The previously unreported acquisition closed this spring, Midjourney said. It declined to disclose financial terms.
This is big: CEO @banu_guler is now Chief Design Officer at Midjourney.

incredible!
Wonder what the angle is here. Looking forward to the shifts.
This is a really interesting move. Midjourney expanding beyond image generation and bringing in a product like Co–Star shows how AI companies may be looking more seriously at consumer products, design, and personalised experiences.
The Banu Güler move is especially interesting too. If Midjourney is building its first standalone image-generation app, having someone with strong product and design experience leading that direction could be significant.
I work in Online Reputation Management, so I’m also curious about how this kind of acquisition affects brand perception. Midjourney has built a strong identity around creative AI, while Co–Star has its own very distinct community and personality.
It will be interesting to see whether Midjourney keeps Co–Star as a separate brand or eventually brings the technology and user experience more closely into its own ecosystem.
