What makes a scam actually convincing?

While building HUNCH, I noticed something interesting: the hardest scenarios aren't necessarily the ones with the most complicated scams.

They're the ones that look normal.

A familiar company. A reasonable request. A message that isn't badly written. A little urgency. Nothing immediately screams “SCAM,” but something just feels slightly off.

That's what I wanted HUNCH to focus on — not just recognizing obvious scams, but getting better at noticing those small details that make you stop and think before responding.

There are a lot of different types of scams out there, and everyone seems to have that one category they immediately distrust. Some people are suspicious of random DMs, others of job offers, fake deliveries, investment opportunities, account warnings, or messages pretending to be someone they know.

So I'm curious:

What type of scam do you think is hardest to spot when it’s done well?
