Goldfish - Press Option. It knows your work and replies like you
by•
Most AI tools make you explain the context before they can help. Goldfish already has it. It privately remembers what you’ve been working on across your Mac, then helps you write better from any app. Press Option in a text field to draft replies, summarize threads, rewrite sentences, or recall important details from your recent work without copying, pasting, or re-explaining the whole backstory.

Huge congrats on the launch 🚀 Excited to see Goldfish grow, wishing you all the success you deserve!

@moon10 thank you so much!! really appreciate the support 🚀🐠
Great tool, love it. One thing I found annoying is that the tool sits at the top of the screen, so when I try to switch tabs it blocks me from switching tabs. Also, auto-hide top bar doesn’t seem to be working on Windows.
Another concern I have is what the limitations will be after the beta.
Goldfish
@bojan_inkyy Thanks Bojan, super useful feedback. We haven't unfortunately implemented auto-hide on Windows yet, still lots of improvements on that side of the pond.
On beta limits, we haven’t finalized the exact packaging yet, but the Product Hunt early access includes 3 months free access. We’ll be clear about limits before anything changes! :-D
@bojan_inkyy Sorry about the Windows issues! We'll get on it!

I've been using Goldfish for the last 2 days and can't get enough of how thoughtfully it's been built. The Option-key workflow feels obvious once you try it, and the context awareness makes the whole thing click.
Amazing work guys. This one's going to be big!
(I goldfished the above text haha) Very very cool!
Goldfish
@hoshang_m Thanks Hoshang, this means a lot. And the fact that you goldfished it makes it even better.
@hoshang_m Thank you!! The option click do feel obvious now once you've it right!
Does it work equally well across different apps like Slack, Gmail, and Notion? The feature great, but I'm curious about how seamless the integration really is.
Goldfish
@jordan_bulk yes, that’s exactly the idea. Goldfish works across apps like Slack, Gmail, Notion, LinkedIn, Product Hunt, docs, browser tabs, etc.
The integration is through the Mac itself rather than one-off plugins, so you press Option in the text field you’re already using and it reads the surrounding context from that app. The seamless part is not having to copy/paste the thread into a chatbot first.
There are still edge cases depending on the app and text field, but the core flow is already working well across the surfaces people use day to day.
@kar_re that's great
@joel_edholm Congrats on your Goldfish launch! Curious about privacy and data storage—specifically, whether Goldfish processes our context locally on the device or if it sends any data to the cloud to mimic our style, our writing, etc.?
Goldfish
@joel_edholm @wai_kit_cheah Thanks Wai Kit. Goldfish uses local memory on your Mac, not cloud sync. The context it captures is stored in a local database, and there is no backend where we can browse your data.
When you ask it to write or answer something, the relevant context is sent to the AI provider for that request, but with zero data retention. You can also pause capture whenever you want, exclude specific apps or domains, and delete stored history.
@wai_kit_cheah fair question. Today Goldfish uses cloud models for the actual generation, but the context is scoped to what you’re doing and we’re very intentional about what gets sent, stored, and remembered. Local-first/on-device is the direction we want to push as the models get good enough.
what are your best use cases so far? 🐠
@joel_edholm Local-first/on-device is a good direction.
I would be interested on how Goldfish could handle context switching. Let me elaborate. While it's good to have Goldfish write, think, work like us, but if i am dealing with multiple internal stakeholders, or a sales exec managing umpteen accounts, or consultant supporting multiple clients, we would have to remember each of their specific pain points / deliverables / context. And a lot of these details spread across multiple apps, data sources, messages, emails, etc. If Goldfish is local, could it also act like a 'context router', i.e. not just draft a reply, but pick up details/info from Slack, from project plans on OneDrive, or chat conversations I had with the client?
Finally someone built contextual AI without shipping my data to the cloud. “Memory stays on your Mac” sold me immediately. Tired of pasting Slack threads into ChatGPT. The MCP integration for Claude Desktop is genius too. Curious how you handle performance with 1k+ founding members indexing everything locally?
Goldfish
@oreofe_oluwatipin1
Thanks Oreofe! Performance is one of the main things we obsess over. Goldfish only indexes the context it can read locally on your Mac, and we keep retrieval focused around the current surface, recent context, and the people/projects involved rather than trying to shove everything into every request.
With 1k+ founding members, the biggest lesson has been that relevance matters more than raw memory size. Recent visible context usually wins, older memory helps with tone and recurring work, and everything stays local so the privacy model does not change as usage grows! :-)
One big bet is that the context will become more relevant in the future as well, so even though we cannot use the context to the max today, we definitely will in the future.
@oreofe_oluwatipin1 yeah, exactly! Local first for the win, people don't want their sensitive data anywhere else. Local is the future!

@odeth_negapatan1 thanks Odeth! Beyond Mac is definitely something we care about. We already have a Windows version available from our website, and we’re learning a lot from early users there right now. Would love for you to try it and tell us what feels good or rough. Also have gotten requests from Arch Linux users to port it so that might be a next step beyond windows! :- D
@odeth_negapatan1 We want to bring it to the phone as well! Lets see if we can make it happen :)
The AI has memory like a goldfish line is such a clean way to put it, it's the actual friction point with every chatbot right now. You open a new tab and suddenly you're the one doing the context loading work that the AI should be doing.
@alexander_gray3 exactly. you get it. did you like goldfish as a solution for it? 🐠
Goldfish
@alexander_gray3 yes exactly, that context loading work is the real tax. It feels small once, but doing it across every reply, doc, support thread, and project adds up fast. That is the bit we want Goldfish to remove.
Making my job so much easier with one key, not having to go through different AI systems, but just having one that knows it all
Goldfish
@jessica_iyer So happy to hear that Jessica! Any special use case that's extra good? :- D
@jessica_iyer exactly! thank you!! What are your best use cases so far?

@alexander_woxstrom Thank you for the kind words Alexander! Happy to hear its been useful 🐠
@alexander_woxstrom Awesome!! Thank you for the support. Hope you will find many use cases for it!
