Assign tickets 📝, get back PRs 🚀, and only pay for code you merge 🙏.
Behind the scenes, tickets are sent to multiple engineers who review each other’s code.
See it in action on the public repos of Cal.com, Supabase, and SourceGraph.
👋 Hi Product Hunt, I’m Hamza from ◯˚GitStart. We’re building a service for engineering teams to assign tickets and get back PRs.
We recruit devs who want to grow from remote countries, to work full-time on these tickets and review each other’s PRs. For tech teams it’s pay as you go, and they only pay if they merge the PRs (we pay our devs a base regardless).
🌐 A number of commercial open source repos already use us, so you can check out some of the PRs created by GitStart here:
- Cal.com: https://github.com/calcom/cal.co...
- SourceGraph: https://github.com/sourcegraph/s...
- StoryBooks: https://github.com/storybookjs/s...
- Strapi: https://github.com/strapi/strapi...
- Supabase: https://github.com/supabase/supa...
- Twenty: https://github.com/twentyhq/twen...
🧑💻 GitStart is very personal to me because I struggled myself to start my career as a junior dev. Being born in Pakistan made it super hard to find my first remote job. Things changed with Google Summer of Code, which was the first time I got paid to contribute to a large production codebase.
🏃 When I became a staff engineer, I started mentoring junior devs on their solo projects. I then realized what they really needed was production code experience, so I started sending them tickets from my backlog to grow them through code reviews. I also paid them for it. They learned a lot and I got a lot done, which started GitStart.
❗️Disclaimer: GitStart only works for limited scenarios:
- Repos with active development by 2+ contributors and through PRs (no trunk based development)
- Already have scripts to generate seed data or a staging environment to test your codebase
- Automated Onboarding only works for JS/TS codebases that can build and run within a docker container. For other tech stacks, contact us at onboard@gitstart.com and we’ll send instructions

@ziahamza Hello Everyone, Corentin from GitStart here 👋. Personally I'm super excited about GitStart going live so we can create a lot of jobs for people all around the world.
It means a lot to me because I founded a NGO that teaches coding in jails before GitStart.
It's still running - it became Europe's largest, but finding each new batch of 8 students required years of jumping through the government's hoops ⚙️.
So I left the NGO world to join Hamza and GitStart, where we can create hundreds of jobs in a matter of days.
Happy to answer any questions!
@ziahamza Hello Product Hunters!
A big hello and thank you from me as well. I'm the Product Lead at GitStart, which really excites me given the positive impact we can have on so many people around the world.
I'm really looking forward to scaling our platform and changing the way software development is done, normalizing the idea that you can be anywhere in the world, coding at any time, however much you can or want, and make a living.
I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say that we wholeheartedly believe in bringing more ideas to life with software, so I can't wait to bring more tech stacks, onboard more developers, and help more teams ship great ideas to their users :)
Hit us up with any questions!

@ziahamza Hello, I'm James from GitStart! Super excited to be launching here on GitStart, and thank you to everyone for the feedback and support!
At Hospitable.com we started using GitStart over the last few months, they worked with us to find a team that supported our tech stack and it's been great so far. The team have been quick to understand the product, and the issues we have asked them to tackle. They have also been open to feedback, and whilst technically our code base isn't always optimised to onboard a team like GitStart they've embraced it and taken care of the assigned tasks with very few issues.
The product itself has been great, smooth integration with Linear and GitLab, and everything that happens in the background just seems to work.
The experience has only been positive and @ziahamza, @sudocorentin and the rest of the GitStart team and on to something great.
@sudocorentin@slashequip Thank you so much! I am proud that you had a great experience using GitStart 🔥🙌
Looking forward to continuing to shipping those PRs for you guys ✨
@ziahamza@slashequip Oh wow, thank you so much Sam, this means a lot! Really appreciate the public feedback!
Also, this is the coolest profile picture I've ever seen on this platform.
This is great! I love the idea of having super flexible engineering support. Do you have a pricing calculator to estimate costs for common tasks before actually sharing issues and code?
@vincentropy So we do currently show real PRs and their associated prices on our landing page here: https://gitstart.com/pricing
Now before a PR is pushed, we always request a budget (which sets the upper limit on the final cost), so you have up-front contract on what the final PR will cost. And its only pay when you merge, so entirely risk free.
Behind the scenes, we have trained a model that enables devs to put in a few assumptions about the complexity of the ticket and deduce the cost of the PR from it.
@vincentropy@sudocorentin (Sorry for barging in 😅) but I did have that question in-mind for our project, we actually wanted to implement a search functionality of the posts // users in a firebase DB. How much do you think it might potentially cost, in-terms w/ credits?
P.S. Love the idea! Keep up the GW! :D
We've used Gitstart to augment our developer bandwidth at codewp.ai for a few months (working on platform rebuild / launch). It's a great offering. The founder, Hamza, and our support team are very responsive and attentive. The outputs for our PRs are great quality. I also like the fact that we're helping real world developers level up their skills without the pain of training them ourselves :).
We're a bit different than some of the companies mentioned here, very small, agile, and quick moving. Was worried that GitStart wouldn't make sense, but in fact, they allowed us to focus the more complex (and fun) aspects of our platform while getting rid of time draws - a great asset for a small startup.
Costs are pretty accurate, communication is good. No complaints at all, they're definitely worth a try.
@jameswlepage Thank you James! Appreciate the public feedback, and we are proud to play a part in helping CodeWP rebuild. 🥹 🙌
Looking forward to keeping up the service and make it better inch by inch 💪

Very impressed with the responsiveness of the Gitstart team and roll out support for a new language and framework in a matter of days for us Hospitable.com.
Really excited to see where the team can push this fantastic idea and execution! 🚀
@pierre_camille_hamana Thank you for believing in us as our first customer for PHP! 🙇♂️
It worked out so well that we rolled out PHP offering to a few more customers since then 🥹
@m_dolr Thank you!! We started doing that last year. Honestly, it was hard at first to contribute to open source as the bar is high, but very proud of where we stand now this year

I have had the privilege of collaborating extensively with the founding members of GitStart in the past, an experience I found truly remarkable.
Currently, we are using GitStart for my startup, and it has really helped us scale up our dev capacity without having to deal with the challenges of hiring. With GitStart, my senior developers can focus on high-level architectural designs, while the labor-intensive task of implementation is seamlessly delegated to GitStart. This collaboration has proven to be highly beneficial for the growth and efficiency of the team.
@arslanarshad Thank you, Arslan, for helping us take it off the ground and later use it for your startup. Your feedback and usage has been instrumental to get us to this point and I look forward to taking it to new heights and making you proud 🙌
Very interesting - I see a lot of value being able to leverage modular contractors, especially if you're strapped on resources and not able to work on non-core eng work like minor refactors.
How does this work for non-open source repos? How do you share full context on the biz requirements, timelines, code nuances/convention, etc? Guessing this needs to be fully explicit in the JIRA/Linear ticket?
@supademo_joe For non-open source repos you are indeed correct. Usually we start deploying GitStart for activities that do not require high context like ramping up test coverage (Unit / End to End), refactoring and cleaning up tech debt, improving the DevX, performance, LightHouse scores, Accessibility and so on
Devs work full time on each instance, so they build up quite a lot of context in the above process and enables them to build fully complete features following that.
And in the way, we start to maintain and update docs as well (or create them if they dont exist), which helps both us and any new developer that joins the team upstream

I never heard about this before today's product launch. Shame on me.
@mho22 shame of us! if you have any advice on where we should have spread the word so you know about it before today, feel free to share!
We've been looking for good engineering newsletters to sponsor for example

@sudocorentin I think it is mostly my fault. I was nowhere on socials still 3 months ago, like a digital hermit.

As the co-founder and CTO of Paway, teaming up with Gitstart was one of our best moves. We first used them for small, leftover tasks, but they were so good that we quickly gave them more complex work in mobile and web development using React Native and Next.js. They didn't just write code; they also made our developers' lives easier by setting up our system so it starts with just one command. We were on a tight deadline to launch our first product, and Gitstart's help was crucial for meeting that deadline. Working with Hamza and his team has been great—they really cared about going the extra mile and helping us succeed. I highly recommend Gitstart to anyone needing extra help with their coding projects 👌
@melvin_tercan Thank you so much for being one of our first customers to try out the service and shape it into what it has become today Melvin!
We would not be here without your support, in particular with React Native, which is a very tough tech stack to support and scale. Thank you! 🙇♂️ 🚀
