GitNFT - Autograph and sell your GitHub commits as NFTs

byβ€’
GitNFT lets developers mint NFTs of their GitHub commits and seamlessly list them in the OpenSea marketplace! Minting costs are on the house 🍺

Similar to Cent but for git commits, not tweets. This might sound silly to some, but this could unlock a new method for supporting open source and indie devs. 😊

That's right @rrhoover πŸ™Œ we want to channel value back to software creators and incentivise new work in OSS!
David Butler
@rrhoover Exactly our thinking! We can't wait to see what the community does with it!

Hello πŸ‘‹ My name is Rodrigo, I'm the founder of Quine. We are building novel ways for software creators to monetise their work, skills, and reputation. Today we're thrilled to release our first product - GitNFT - which enables developers to autograph and mint NFTs of their GitHub commits and list them in the OpenSea marketplace for collectors to buy. So how does it work? GitNFT enables you to suggest and vote on commits that you think should be created as NFTs. If you're the author of a commit, the app enables you to mint an NFT of it for free. Upon minting, the NFT gets transferred directly to your ETH wallet and is listed in our OpenSea collection. You can then choose to put it for sale on OpenSea. GitNFT's smart contract runs on the Polygon (formerly Matic) Ethereum sidechain, and the NFT metadata is stored on Arweave, the leading blockchain for long term file storage. We think commits are a great collector item. They're unique, have verifiable authorship, and are immutable by design. Moreover, many of them store substantial collector value, either for their historical significance, the coolness/aesthetics of their content, or the popularity of the author. The world’s digital infrastructure feeds on Open-Source Software (OSS), yet the economic value it generates does not back-propagate to its creators. GitNFT is a new monetisation mechanism that aims to make Open-Source work economically sustainable ❀️ Please share feedback, questions, and comments :) Happy minting 🌿 Rodrigo & the Quine team

Damn - this is a great use case for NFTs. Really really cool concept, and excited to see where this goes! Congratulations on the launch πŸš€

@bertie Thanks Bertie! :)
David Butler
@bertie Thanks so much Bertie. We are with you that we cannot wait to see where this goes!

@bertie Thank you for sharing the excitement with us Bertie, we have high ambitions on this project πŸ’ͺ
Yoginth
GitLab support would be great!
Rodrigo Mendoza-Smith
@yg Thanks for the feedback Yogi! Coming very soon!
Devanand Gowda
@yg Thank you for suggesting this Yogi, we are planning on adding more platforms soon.
David Butler
@yg What would you mint from GitLab first? Keen to hear what you have in mind?
Yoginth
@david_butler93 Of course! why not? see my GitLab profile activity :D https://gitlab.com/yo

@gerdaespinosa Thank you Gerda!
David Butler
@gerdaespinosa Thanks Gerda. Let us know what you think!

Good way to encourage communities to grow and show recognition! Awesome product!
Rodrigo Mendoza-Smith
@jesmith Thanks James! Really appreciate your support πŸ™Œ
David Butler
@jesmith OSS is such a great community, this is our way of trying to help it! Thanks James
Anton Shevchenko
@jesmith Thank you so much!

I am super exited about this!! This can change the game on how people can monetise their open source contributions and how open source projects can raise funds (value of initial commits, big milestones, forks, white-papers, hacks... etc). Tokenisation of software, here we come!
Rodrigo Mendoza-Smith
@yassinelanda YEESS!!!!
David Butler
@yassinelanda Thanks for your support Yassine. We hope this will allow OS devs to continue doing what they are doing!
Devanand Gowda
Thank you for the support Yasine, would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
zufius
This is an interesting idea. With NFT we can monetize everything on the internet! How weird!!!
Rodrigo Mendoza-Smith
@zufius Yes zufius!
David Butler
@zufius What else would you want to mint? We are all ears πŸ‘‚
Tudor
@zufius Yes!! We're really hoping to empower pro-bono developers this way and give back to the OS community
Kristian Kielhofner
As others have said, great application of NFTs! Also like the selection of Polygon; at my new (pre-ProductHunt) startup I selected Polygon as well because we'll be paying for gas too. Luckily with the $250 of MATIC we bought I probably won't have to even look at it for years because the gas fees are so low. Congratulations on the launch, I'll be watching (and likely using) GitNFT!
Rodrigo Mendoza-Smith
@kristian_kielhofner Thanks Kristian! We share your thoughts on Polygon and looking forward to seeing you in the platform and helping you monetise your work πŸ™Œ
Kristian Kielhofner
@r0dms Thanks Rodrigo, I wish you the best of success with GitNFT!
David Butler
@kristian_kielhofner Thanks Kristian. Any idea what you are going to mint first? Keen to hear your ideas!
Kristian Kielhofner
@david_butler93 We should be open sourcing our JavaScript client implementation soon and given our space and application (non-transferable NFTs for media asset verification records, NFTs for media assets themselves) I think it would only make sense to mint our first release! More at our website if you're curious: https://tovera.com/
David Butler
@kristian_kielhofner I just signed up. Love the control it gives users over their assets. Also like how you are considerate of privacy too (in a past life I worked in cryptography and privacy (id stuff)). Please get in touch when you do open source it!
Ivanna Wendel
Great idea! Congrats on the launch!
Rodrigo Mendoza-Smith
@ivanna_wendel Thanks Ivanna πŸ™
David Butler
@ivanna_wendel Thanks so much Ivanna. Let us know what you think!
