Which cities (in your country) are tech hubs and offer many job or business opportunities?

I remember reading an essay by @rrhoover about how he moved from his native Oregon to San Francisco after university studies, where doors full of networking opportunities opened up for him.

I saw the same thing in my country after graduation. About 80% of my classmates went to the capital, where there are the most opportunities in marketing and tech. (Or they went abroad.)

The differences in places and their opportunities are vast and it depends on where you move (as my friend would say: "It's better to do business in SF than in Ghana.").

Which places do you consider to be the "Mecca" of business opportunities in your country?

I am in a very small country so I can list only 2 for Slovakia:

[Idea: In the future, we could create something like a map of these places. 😄]

I'm from India, and we are a subcontinent. Have a list of Tech Hubs like

Bengaluru

Hyderabad

Chennai

Pune

Mumbai

Nika

@kankipati_arun All of these cities I perceived like hubs in some sense (except Chennai – have heard about this one for the very first time) ;D at least, you enriched my list :)

Arun Kumar Kankipati

@busmark_w_nika Chennai was previously called Madras and one of the booming IT Hubs of India

Juan Secchi

Buenos Aires! Lots of cool startups, also the top rated city in south America for expats :D

Hyuntak Lee

@juan also "The Paris of South America" I heard!

Nika

@juan Do you live in Aires? :D I heard that they have a lot of good events :D Once, I'd like to experience the night life :D

Juan Secchi

@busmark_w_nika No, I live in Germany! Grew up in Buenos Aires though, left a few years ago... but yes, events, night life, culture, music, gastronomy, BA is so cool. My favourite place in the world <3

Nika

@juan You make me jealous :D Now, I want to go there even more.

Bingbing Yan

Based on my experience living in China, a lot of the older tech companies are based in Shanghai, but like Deepseek's explosion, Hangzhou is emerging as a new tech center

Victor Pimentel

I'd have to say Tokyo for sure. It is really common to see collage graduates to go to Tokyo looking for job opportunities that we even have a word for that, "Jo-kyo (上京)" ;D

Very nice post by the way! Really nice to see how international Product Hunt is!

Nika

@victor_pimentel Thank you, Victor. Do you live in Tokyo now? My friend said to me on yesterday's call that in this city – there are a lot of stimuli – not only for tech but also for art and social life. The thing is that at the moment I am not in a position to finance living there because I have heard that living costs are quite higher compared to Europe (where I am based now).

Victor Pimentel

@busmark_w_nika Hey Nika! I am living in Italy right now :) Yes you are right, the cost of living in Tokyo is very high compared to the other cities... Are you planning to move there someday?

Nika

@victor_pimentel I do not plan to move permanently into any of these countries. I like them both but I prefer occasional travelling related to work or any event (nomadic style) with returning back home. :) My current home is in Slovakia.

Victor Pimentel

@busmark_w_nika That's fair enough :) It is always nice to be home.

Bangalore - India

Nika

@drjaat Is it where you are currently?

Hyuntak Lee

Seoul for sure! South Korea is actually Republic of Seoul. The city itself is the "land of opportunity".

I'm curious - Bratislava is the capital city and Košice is the largest city in your country. Do they have separate roles (one for Finance, one for Business for example) or do they both have same importance generally?

Nika

@hyuntak_lee Bratislava is the capital and it is bigger (population as well as area) – the thing is that both have a very unusual position on the map (they are on opposite sites so each half focuses on their own "business"). And it feels like we have 2 points where to go. I am geographically closer to Bratislava. These are BA – KE – ~6 hours by train. I would say that BA is more important as it is a capital.

Do you have only Seoul?

Hyuntak Lee

@busmark_w_nika It would have been better if the two centrals somehow connect and cooperate with each other to make synergy rather than minding their own business.

We have Busan and Incheon where trade and industries are active, but to be honest it's either Seoul or non-Seoul

Nika

@hyuntak_lee It is not like "minding their own business" but that distance needs to offer local people solutions. If there were no Košice, people in the East would be more jobless. So partial decentralisation was needed.

Hyuntak Lee

@busmark_w_nika Sorry for misunderstanding. Now I clearly see roles of the two cities. South Korea tried decentralization several times only to make Seoul bigger and crowded.

Hugo Pochet

Regarding France, it would be Paris (Lyon and Lille are smaller hubs, but you have great startup ecosystems there as well) 🥖

Nika

@hugo_pochet Have been only in Nice and Cannes, but I believe that Paris is a huge hub for every field. Cannes was cool in terms of cinematography and tourism.

Hugo Pochet

@busmark_w_nika Definitely nice places to visit (and to enjoy the french riviera) ☀️

Andrius Bartulis

Lithuania - primarily Vilnius (the capital, as you would expect), but also Kaunas is good for tech.

Nika

@andriusbartulis I had a look at the images. Your country is beautiful!

Andrius Bartulis

@busmark_w_nika thanks, and so is yours.

Nika

@andriusbartulis Thank you, tho I do not live in any of them :D

Konrad S.

For Germany, I think Berlin and Munich are clearly leading. For fintech it's Frankfurt of course, which is also the most European and international I think.

Nika

@konrad_sx Are you based near by these places? Munich or Berlin? I was in Munich and it is true that it is techy :)

Konrad S.

@busmark_w_nika I lived both near Berlin and Munich for some time, but moving to Frankfurt now. Where are you?

Nika

@konrad_sx I am in Trenčín (Still in Slovakia). In Münich, I was only twice (approximately for 1 week).

Ajay Sahoo

Delhi NCR - Noida & Gurgaon are hubs for the Tertiary sector (Tech hubs) where various product and service based tech giants have their Corporate Offices to operate.

Nika

@ajay27324 Do you have personal experience from there? Once, I would like to visit India, but primarily for another reason – Rishikesh :)

Ajay Sahoo

@busmark_w_nika Yes, It's mainly placed at a point where people from other states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh can migrate easily for employment and start corporate career after higher studies.

Uttarakhand is one of the most scenic states to travel and Rishikesh is best and starting place to spend best time with many activities and locations around from pilgrimage places to Himalayan tourism following with summer and winter trekking destinations also.

All the best for upcoming visit.
